Full Subject: Did I loose ability to sync songs not defined in "auto-sync server content" after device profile changed?
My phone device changed (returned for repair, got a replacement, got the old phone back with new USB port). It gave me a new device profile.
Now it only syncs updates which are selected in "Auto-sync server content" (="Auto-Sync(-->Device) on MMW) (which are only songs with ratings 4-5). The only way I used to put additional songs/albums on the phone (with the old device profile) was via "Sent to: Device (Synchronize)" from MMW (so my phone ONLY contains songs that are in the MMW Library).
Now, after the "phone change", I configured "Auto-sync device content" (="Auto-Sync (-->Library) on MMW) with a destination path that matches my folder structure. When syncing now, it gives me a list of all songs that are not part of the "Auto-sync server content" selection, and it wants to upload them only (the "update" list is empty). Changes I made are on both systems (MMA: ratings and MMW: ratings and meta data updates).
As far as I see and understand, updates/syncs (both ways?) are at the moment only possible when the device id (=device profile) never changes? Assuming this, the only way to fix this is a time consuming "send every thing again to the phone and delete all files manually that resulted in duplicates because of updated meta data changed the file name/path"?
Is this just technical limitation, or can it be considered as a bug? As it works with items configured in "auto-sync server content" even after a device profile change, I assume there could be a way that it works for the remaining content? (I don't know how the identification of songs for sync work)
I hope I could describe this clear enough.
MMW 4.1.0.1671 and MMA 1.0.4.0185 - Note II on 4.3.1 Custom Rom (PAC)

Re: Did I loose ability to sync songs not defined in autosyn
MMW can only track what it send to the device through the Device Profile, thus a change in this would not allow it to track existing content.
However I don't fully understand the problem. Is the problem that files are being synced from device to PC?

Re: Did I loose ability to sync songs not defined in autosyn
Oh my god. I got it really wrong.
What I thought: The problem is that I can't sync anything I sent earlier with "Sent to: Device". And that songs from "Auto-sync server content" still got synced ok.
I just realized that is not the case, it just re-downloaded all(?*) files that match the "auto-sync server content"-selection, and as long no meta data changed that resulted in a different folder/filename it's like it just updated from server->device (and just lost changes made on device).
*It did not really re-downloaded all matching files (maybe a bug?, I'm really confused now). It downloaded 519 files. The count of songs that match my "Auto-sync server content" which is defined by "ratings 4-5" is 1830. Don't know what led that only 519 got re-downloaded. If it would download all 1830 [4-5 star ratings] again, I would not got that confused.
OK, my sync is broken.
If I "export device options", does the "track existing content" get exported as well? (in my case this would not help that much anyway, since I used 2 device profiles (my main phone before repair and the replacement phone) each for a lot of songs).

No, and you're case is really unique as I doubt many will have the same device with different hardware. Wifi sync should've been okay as it doesn't depend on the hardware (but on MMA ID stored on device), but USB sync uses a unique hardware identifier and this isn't exported with a device profile. You'd probably be able to do this manually directly in the DB though (I presume).

Re: Did I loose ability to sync songs not defined in autosyn
I try to recap, since it was a long day and confusion is quite big now
Because my USB hardware identifier changed, it had reset my sync destination on the device. My fault was when trying to fix that on the device (instead in MMW) that I cleared the MMA data (which created a new MMA ID). Because I first did a sync before properly setting up MMA with the sync destination, it synced a big part until no space left on device. After setting correct sync destination, it only had to sync remaining 519 songs, which confused me further.
Possible fix(?): restore MMA data with Titanium Backup. As maybe the new sync overwritten the old "wifi track data" (?) restore also a MMW database backup. Then edit the MMA database to update the old USB hardware ID with the new one.
I don't know how unique my case will really be in the long run. Everyone who gets a new phone and install MMA fresh from the market while switching the SD card to the new device should run into the same problems?

Re: Did I loose ability to sync songs not defined in autosyn
To make sure this is clear to anyone else:
1) If you use MMW's 'Send to device' command, the tracks that are sent in this manner are _not_ added to the auto-sync list.
2) If MMW 4.0 has created a device profile for your device, and you want that same device profile to be re-used with MMW 4.1, then it is best to initially sync over USB with MM 4.1.
