How to get MM to auto-convert when exporting to device
Hi there,
I have UPnP set up on my MM, and it does send the files wirelessly, but it does not seem to convert on the fly (to M4a, from .wav, which is what my files are in). I have set up the options to convert, but it does not convert, it is the wav files that are sent to the device.
Perhaps I am not seeing an option correctly (it is hard to read the dark writing on that interface and I have a laptop screen with extremely high resolution, so the print is very small). I must be missing a step (or more than one).
Can you please walk me through the method to get my wav files auto converted to m4a?
Cheers

Re: How to get MM to auto-convert when exporting to device
If you're streaming you set conversion rules in the Media Server under Tools > Options > Media Sharing (note that you can set it global and per device). If you're syncing to MMA it is set in the Device Profile under Tools > Options > Portable Device Sync.

Thanks for the reply, Lowlander.
I think it is synch involved (though it is only a send to option, rather than synching everything). Streaming is not what's involved, just copying and converting on the fly, either individual tracks or whole albums.
Is that also set in the same place as for synch?

Send To is sync thus auto-conversion options are set in the Device Profile.

Re: How to get MM to auto-convert when exporting to device
I have the option set to auto convert on the fly already for that device and when it is hard wired to the computer it does perform the conversion, but this is a file being sent from the computer library to the device. On the device, we are calling for a file from the computer. The file that gets delivered is a wav file, not a m4a.
Any idea on what I might be doing wrong?

It's not clear if you are talking about syncing a file or streaming one.mediamonkeychick wrote:I have the option set to auto convert on the fly already for that device and when it is hard wired to the computer it does perform the conversion, but this is a file being sent from the computer library to the device. Re: How to get MM to auto-convert when exporting to device
Sorry, I thought I had explained it.
I want to transfer a music file from the computer mm library to the device. In the library it is a wav file. I want the files to be converted from wav to m4a as they are copied over to the Android device. Not streaming. So I have the file, but in m4a format, actually on the device.
Thanks

Re: How to get MM to auto-convert when exporting to device
In that case do as Lowlander already said, set the auto-conversion option in the device profile.mediamonkeychick wrote:Sorry, I thought I had explained it.

1. Attach device via USB
2. Click on the device in the MM media tree
3. Click the "Auto-conversion" tab
4. Set a new rule to convert WAV files to m4a

Re: How to get MM to auto-convert when exporting to device
That is already done, the whole thing is already set up to auto convert to the file format. It happens with no problems when sending the file, wired, to the device. When trying to wirelessly bring a file over from the library to the device, this does not actually happen.
Re: How to get MM to auto-convert when exporting to device
You may have WAV set as supported format, thus the rule unsupported formats to MP3 won't convert the WAV files. A screenshot of the Auto-Conversion settings in the Device Profile may help.

You mentioned Send To, which can only be done over USB from MMW to device. Now you mention wireless which can only be done in MMA or from a DLNA client with download capability. Please explain in detail what/how you're doing as the lack of details won't allow us to help.

Re: How to get MM to auto-convert when exporting to device
The device itself does support wav files, but obviously are bigger than I want on the phone, where m4a are fine. Should I change that to being unsupported format in some way?

So sorry, I mentioned Send To which caused confusion.
The first posting on this stated: "I have UPnP set up on my MM, and it does send the files wirelessly, but it does not seem to convert on the fly (to M4a, from .wav, which is what my files are in). I have set up the options to convert, but it does not convert, it is the wav files that are sent to the device."
This is using UpNP.

Re: How to get MM to auto-convert when exporting to device
Then you need to set auto-conversion rules in the Media Server.

Re: How to get MM to auto-convert when exporting to device
The auto conversion rules in the Media Server seem to say that they are for when streaming media, not for when media is being sent. I must be missing something, because I have these set already and it is not doing the conversion. http://www.elliekennard.ca/autoconversi ... server.PNGLowlander wrote:Then you need to set auto-conversion rules in the Media Server.
I don't know how to attach a screen saver, so am just giving a link to my upload.
