Tracks that are present once are showing twice (phantoms)
Hi there,
I have an album that was imported to my phone device, external SD card (usual place where all music goes) which initially imported 11 tracks to one album in MM for Android, 1 of the tracks into another album. I found that for some reason one of the tracks had been placed into The Skydiggers while the rest went into Skydiggers. The info showing in the file did not show that it was in an album "The Skydiggers", so why it happened is, so far, a mystery. In MM on my Windows machine, all tracks are present in the same folder, they are only showing one album (Skydiggers). This album shows all 12 tracks, all with the same Artist, same Album Artist etc. All located in the same folder on the computer.
To make things easier I decided to delete all tracks from within MMA, from both albums (1 track in one, 11 tracks in another) and then to reimport. A check using File manager showed that the files had been actually deleted from the card on the device. I reimported them (using Up/NP, not that this should make a difference). The device shows 2 folders (and 2 albums), one for The Skydiggers, one for Skydiggers, the first one having one track in it, the second having 23 (12 tracks on the album, 11 tracks that are supposedly duplicates, with the last track in the other 'album'). The strange thing is that a search on File manager shows that these tracks are only in one folder (Skydiggers) once. There is no duplicate of any of them. They are phantom tracks.
The nuisance is that if you play the album, it plays each track twice. Is there any solution to this, please?

I have found that just deleting the "files on the disk" seems to confuse MMA. There seems to be an issue with MMA's scanning function, where it does not recognize that the files have been deleted because they are still within the MMA database.
My solution to this has been to delete all of the files directly from the app and then re-sync. This clears MMA's database and then will only recognize the newly added files.
Hope this helps your situation.

Thanks for the reply.
However the tracks were deleted from within MMA. I used the file manager only to confirm that they had, in fact, really been deleted, as they were showing within mm. MMA is confused entirely on its own there.
I don't use the actual synch command, just import into the device the albums I want imported.
I even restarted the device, in case it helped. That was when the tracks are there in duplicate. Prior to that restart it just was confused and still showed me the single track on its own, with all tracks in the other album

If you delete files from a file manager (ie. not from MMA) you may need to run manual scan from Options to update the MMA Library.

Yes, agreed.Lowlander wrote:If you delete files from a file manager (ie. not from MMA) you may need to run manual scan from Options to update the MMA Library.
But what if I deleted them from MMA, which is what happened? I DID NOT delete from the file manager. I used file manager to confirm that the files were actually deleted. After the fact.

Which build of MMA are you using?

Have you managed to find a solution to the phantom tracks thing Lowlander?
Re: Tracks that are present once are showing twice (phantoms
Me, no, I don't have this problem. It's up to the developers to figure this out.

So sorry, Lowlander. I have never seen replies from any developers and assumed that you were the one!
So I guess there is no reply from them.

Greetings, I have the same problem on my Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, having recently acquired it I downloaded MMA (which I had on my previous phone) and transferred 63 albums from my laptop MMW using a USB link. The Sony Walkman had no problem incorporating the music files but the MMA had ghost files for 70% of the albums, I tried deleting from the laptop but on disconnecting the link all the files reappeared and in one case trebled I then went through Album, Artist/Album deleting the doubles which were actual files and played. I checked that the albums were playing went to bed, switched off the phone, turned it on the next day, prepared to go out in the afternoon brought up MMA and found that the ghost files has reappeared and the tracks are not playing. I turned to the Walkman and had no problem. My answer is to delete the Media Monkey for Android. I just went back to my old phone Sony Xperia S running android 4.1.2, updated to the present MMA and lo and behold, NO GHOST TRACKS, tracks are playing within album folders, the same albums which show tracks but no sound in my present phone. The problem seems to lie in Android 4.4.2. Should any one find an answer I will reinstall MMA.
Re: Tracks that are present once are showing twice (phantoms
Greetings again, good news I just did a clean reinstall from Google play and MMA has worked, no ghosting, no other problems, it would seem to be important to let the installation search your folders without interruption indicated by the unnoticeable turning icon at the top of your screen, you may want to set your 'display' to 15 minutes to avoid a blank screen.

Thanks for the posting.
But my device is only 4.3
So disappointed not to get a reply to this from the developer.
I could try a delete and reinstall, but I am not sure if all my playlists would disappear. They are not synced.

Greetings MMChick, as I mentioned previously my previous phone ran 4.1.2 and did not have a problem with the update, which set me thinking the problem is not the Android iteration it is I think with the searching for albums within the Music folder, when such searching is interrupted unknowingly. Uninstalling MMA from the sd card and the internal directory should not affect your music folders or playlists as they are saved to 'disk' so to speak. Use 'Apps' in settings to uninstall MMA and a file commander to delete from the internal memory. Pip, Pip hooray.
