An undo button

Post by Ben425 »

It's a nightmare when you accidentally delete a track's info and can't remember what it originally was.

I've had Mediamonkey for 5+ years and every update I've hoped there'd be an undo feature and was always disappointed. Please please please make one!

Undo Button?

Post by kwil »

This is BADLY needed...
When dealing with a lot of tracks, I find the interface can get 'jerky' and it's so easy to mess things up...Having an 'UNDO' tab/button clearly visible would help enormously!!
My God..even Microsoft gives you one!! :D

There is a "Back" toolbar button, you probably don't have it showing. Can't remember the name but it's the toolbar that by default shows on top of the MM tree.

Undo in something like a word processor is pretty straight forward, as the actions you perform are simple and the scope is straight forward. However, it's rather more complicated in software as powerful as MM. For example, you might change some meta data in a track, which might trigger a script to change some other metadata, and the auto-organise might kick in to move the track, and this might trigger a script to move a buddy file along with it. If you then click "undo", how is the application supposed to respond? It could undo the metadata changes, but then what? Does it undo the auto-organise from before, or does it re-auto-organise based on the new metadata - theoretically both of these would put the file in the same place, but not always. And what about the changes made by the script? If it's firing based on the metadata change then it will fire again because of the undo, but this again is not undoing the previous action but doing a new action, and the application has no control over the script, so how's that going to work? Same with the other script moving the buddy file. This really is a massive can of worms!
Download my scripts at my own MediaMonkey fansite.
All the code for my website and scripts is safely backed up immediately and for free using Dropbox.

Although I agree it would be *nice* and that it is probably possible I think that the amount of work it would involve and the possible breakage caused would not be worth it. I say that as someone who early on using one of the great addons to make mass changes, basically nuked their entire db/files.

But being a DB developer I counsel clients to BACKUP and I should have know better. The best thing to do when making any kind of mass change is to backup at least your DB. Trixmoto has a great addon for that ... and if possible have a secondary external drive to backup your files. It can be a lot of work but much less than reconstructing your db/files

Undo button

Post by Charade »

I just cannot understand why there is no Undo button we can click when we realize we just made a big mistake (like deleting songs... from the computer!!!).

No, I did not erase songs... yet. But I am so scared to do something like that, I wish I can Undo it if it happens!

Thank you.

If you delete files they should be in the Recycle Bin (unless you chose permanent delete or drive has no Recycle Bin setup).

OK, my example was not the best... :)

But I still think we need an Undo button! There are many more blunders we can do (and not undo)...
