MM as a renderer for AAC files

Post by ceborat »

Hello, I tried to use MM as a renderer for AAC files and got the error message that MM cant read the file Format. MP3 works fine.
Playing AAC files with MM direct is working fine too.

What can I do?

You need to either have Quicktime installed, a codec pack like K-lite (still might not work) or purchase MM codec pack.

see article:

Please take a moment to read the bottom of the linked page to support the one and only - ZvezdanD! (the "originator" since 2006).
MMW 4.1.31.1919; 5.0.4.2690 || back it up...frequently!
|| software for power users: "Q-Dir" (free alt. to explorer) and file/folder renamer: "ReNamer" (den4b)

What operating system are you using.

I'm not exactly sure, as I have never needed to purchase the MM codec pack.
Seems like in an earlier 4 version of MM I had trouble with it and either did K-Lite and/or quicktime. I don't remember
exactly. In 3 I used quicktime. Currently I did a recent reinstall of my system and I haven't put anything extra
relating to AAC on it (quicktime, MM pack, third-party pack) and I can play AAC fine,
currently listening to an .mp4 track.

Now I am using MM 4 with windows 7 though. It might just be using the AAC decoder native to Win7 as article mentions.

Did you click on the .mmip file and it said it installed? You might have to look for it in options menu to see if you have to set
something or enable. Someone will come along that is more familiar with download process for it.

On Apple, I understand. I'm no fan of Apple myself (too possessive, and a bit overly simplistic)

Can other programs play the file (particularly QuickTime would be good to know)?

Hi, i use Windows 8.1 on both sytems. i want to stream the aac file from WMP to MM. I have no Problems with mp3 files. AAC works fine from WMP to WMP too. I only have problems with Streaming AAC from WMP to MM because he wants to have quicktime.
The codec pack seems to be installed. i see it in MM in "extensions".
Any Idea?
Thanks for your help :)

is there any other solution than installing QuickTime?

M4P files can't be played without iTunes/QuickTime due DRM. Have you tried QTLite http://www.free-codecs.com/download/QT_Lite.htm ? it is old but it also only contain plain codec not blown full QuickTime.

In newest beta (4.1.6.1727+) we prepared number of small tweaks in order to better log handle AAC/M4A issues and other ones that are related to third party libraries and codecs.

Keep an eye on beta release post for release.
