Dynamic Refresh Rate

Post by kmenzel »

Would it be possible in a future MediaMonkey to support dynamic refresh rate changes when playing video - to match the display refresh rate to the video source (or a multiple thereof?)

(So like, when playing PAL the refresh rate changes to 50Hz, film, 24Hz, NTSC 60Hz)

This results in smoother video playback (on screens that support this)

I know MediaPortal can do this, as can the now defunct Arcsoft TotalMediaTheater, no idea if the language MediaMonkey is written in easily has the ability to do this, but with the frame-rate field already populated at least the information is there?

(And I suppose the frame-rate information may have to be a bit more accurate, I have stuff that reports 1000fps that shouldn't be... not sure if that's a bug in the files or something)
