Playlist as Folder - how to?

Post by Jhag »

Hello,

i have a problem with syncing several playlists to usb. To seperate them I´d like MM to create a folder with the name of the playlist.

I searched throug this forum and the answer (i thought...) was this under device/options/: \<playlist>\$Left(<Interpret>,20) - <Titel>
But, only one folder named "playlist" is created. I wanted several folders with the name of the playlist.

What i am doing wrong?

Best thanks in advance for your help!

That only works if you're syncing Playlists. If you have other things selected for sync it won't work.

I came here to ask the same question. I'm trying to sync to my phone and keep the playlist structure. I noticed when doing a WIFI sync it syncs correctly and how I want it to, with the top level playlist acting as a folder and other playlists inside of it. Even when syncing playlists along with regular albums. So it looks nice and organised like this:

80'S PLAYLISTS
01. Radical
02. Far Out
03. Cool stuff

However when I put my micro SD into an adapter, put it into my computer, and sync it that way, the top level playlist [80's PLAYLISTS] is removed and all that's left is

01. Radical
02. Far Out
03. Cool stuff

This becomes a problem because I have many top level "folder" playlists and when they are removed it becomes all unorganized and jumbled up with my other categorized playlists. So I know mediamonkey can do exactly what I want but it only seems to work on a WIFI sync. Is there something I'm missing or a setting I can change? Because even when I only sync playlists via MicroSD method it still removes the top level playlist and doesn't allow them to act as a folder.

No, only an MMW <> MMA sync will preserve folder hierarchy for Playlists.

That's a real letdown that playlist folders can't be used on anything other than WIFI sync. I would do WIFI but it takes too long for all my songs. I like having categorized folders so it's not just one long list of playlists. I'll have to rename them all with a category prefix or something so they're grouped together the way I want. Anyways, thanks for the quick reply...it was driving me crazy trying to get it to work.

It is a database thing. I believe that there may be an official standard to accomplish this, but I'm not sure if any Apps support it (on reading).

Couple more questions for you (I'm pretty new to MMA)....

Are Star Ratings and lyrics not synced over if you sync directly to a microSD card? (putting card directly into computer and not syncing directly into phone via MTP, WIFI, or USB sync). I noticed my star ratings and lyrics aren't showing up on my phone.

I also noticed my Classical songs are grouped separately (Mozart, Bach, Chopin, etc) into the Classical category and those songs don't appear under "tracks" or "artists" along with all of my other songs, which seems weird. I was wondering why I had 50 songs missing until I looked in the "classical music" category and I found them hidden there.

Is it the genre that causes them to be moved there? Is there a way to have those songs grouped in with everything else even though it's classical music?

Thanks.

You can change type in MMW and yes genre is deciding component.

Reason for all this is that Classical music handle Artist and Composer differently along with sorts and searches which is reasonable due the fact that Artist in Classical Music is actually only Performer and Actual Artist is Composer, ...

When you sync directly to an SD card it's up to the Android Media Scanner to read metedata. This is very limited. That's why MMW to MMA sync as MMW writes directly to the MMA database and thus more metadata is available in MMA.
