Best practices for sync

I successfully configured both my PC and Android to sync my music.
The collection on my PC is bigger than the space available on my phone.
What is the best practice to synchronise a subset of my collection ?

Create an AutoPlaylist limited to x MB or set to sync a random subset in the Device Profile.
