Can't play ac3 audio codec

I have an .avi movie and the audio codec is AC3. None of my movie players on my samsung galaxy note 4 can play the sound track on this movie. I was hoping MM could, but nope..
Any suggestions for how to get this codec working? Yes, I can just convert in handbrake (and have done so) - but this is a hassle to do this with every .avi movie. I feel that I should be able to find a way to get this very common audio codec working.

Try VLC, MediaMonkey currently can only play what your device supports natively.
