Music video thumbnails not generating [#17434, #17450]

Build 2299. Generating thumbnails for videos does not appear to be happening. MP4/AAC video files, but have not tried other formats.

Hmm, maybe I spoken too soon, it must have been a test error (on my side) and the thumbs are generated just fine for me after the second test.

Could you please share a sample file with us? The issue is probably specific to a particular format?

This is weird. I'm not familiar with this icon that's all over the video thumbnails... They appear in Explorer windows, as well as the MMW5 'Playing' panel.

So, I cleared the Windows thumbnail cache using Cleanup and most of the weirdo lock icons were replaced with proper thumbs in Explorer - almost all of them except a few [edit: modifying the tags of these files caused the thumbs in Explorer to be fixed, so they're all good now]. I'm really not sure how the OS thumbnailing interacts with MMW5 if at all, but after a restart MMW still shows the weirdo lock symbol in 'Playing' panel, and when cast to Chromecast.

If you play the video and right click on Video do you get save thumbnail?

If yes hen you click Automatic It should regenerate, if not does save current frame work?

"Generate automatic" does make it regenerate. I'm not going to do that for thousands of videos though

After more investigation all these videos appear to have an image type of "Cover (front)" in a tag containing that weirdo lock image. I didn't do it.

Removing all image tags, including "Video Screen Capture" types (pointing to ... \Roaming\MediaMonkey5\VideoThumbnails\failed.jpg), then replaying a file does not result in a new thumbnail generation. Should it, with the check box to generate thumbnails in options checked?

Couldn't it be that the "weirdo lock image" is presented in the folder where your videos resides?
Ensure that the image isn't presented in the folder and also ensure that the image isn't no longer presented in the file(s) tags.
Then re-scan the folder and MM5 should auto-generate the thumbnails for you.

Yeah, nah. That image wasn't in the folder. No idea where it came from. However...

I just spent about an hour killing all image tags in all those videos, then restarted MMW5 and I now have a magic "Generating thumbnails xxx of 4461" running, which would appear to be doing what it absolutely should.

My cloud provider now hates me, with all those files sync'ing yet again this week to G'drive .

No, as e.g. users tag the videos with DVD covers (where it is desirable to override the thumbnail).
So the question is what written the dummy image to the file(s) tags, but the reason for not generating the thumbs previsously is clear now.

Most fair enough. I blame #randomsoftware having its way at some stage. Thanks Ludek, and sorry for the noise. You blokes and chicks are doing an absolutely fabulous job of MMW5. It's nailed to my laptop, use it daily, and I'm loving it.
