Hi all
I have an *old* laptop (HP Pavilion, about 10 years old - wasn't high spec when I bought it. Running Windows 10) that I use solely to play music through powered speakers in my kitchen. I'm using a cheap Behringer UCA222 sound card and I'm not expecting high quality - just good enough for me to sing along with.
My problem is that certain tracks seem to clip badly - distortion, especially on high frequencies like sibilant noises and cymbals. It's *horrible*.
I've run volume analysis on my entire library and all MP3s (160k) have track volume and album volume tags but that hasn't helped. I'm using WASAPI but wave out and directsound are even worse. I've played with buffer sizes and set it to exclusive mode but all to no avail.
Is there something I can do in MM to help, or should I give up and upgrade something - if the latter, what do you think is the weakest link in my setup? I *never* use this laptop for anything other than playing music.
Thanks
MM5 clipping - is it my sound card?
