Tag from filename isn't consistent

Post by richardgarnett »

Each of my albums is Music\album arist\album\disc#2 track#2 Title. When I look at all the files some albums show the wrong capitalisation and the disc / track numbers are single figures. I have changed these updated the tags etc. The tracks are shown correctly but quickly reverts back without any further input.
I have been using MMW for over 5 years so I am very happy with using the file management side of things. But I cannot force the changes in these albums to match the others. Currently the collection is 900 albums+

What reverts? Is the problem with the Filename or with the tags? If the latter, are you working in Folders when editing the tags and which Build (Help > About) of MediaMonkey are you using?

I am on MMW 2024.0.0.3082

In the All Files Window i make the disc show as two numbers so 01 and the track also as two numbers. The Album Title is set using the tool Case Checker. If you reload mmw the Album Title set by Case Checker reverts to its previous value [Antics In The Forbidden Zone goes back to Antics in the Flrbidden Zone], the disc number goes to a single digit and the track number does too for 1-9

Does this persist on the latest MediaMonkey 2024.1 release?

I cannot see 2024.1 but I think I have found the issue. Although the album is case checked eg. The Corrs Talk On Corners, when I ask media monkey to organise the files it is not renaming the directory in windows. That remains Corrs\Talk on Corners. Where this mismatch happens the disc and track numbers show as 1 2 3 etc rather than 01 02 03 etc. It is the same if the case mismatch is in the Artist field.
It seems all I can do is manually change the incorrect directories.

I have just noticed that the 2024.1 was a hyperlink.
The problem still occurs. The filename isn't always being changed and seen in the windows file manager. What I have seen is that I have lost the play count from the phone. My last track played was 28/02 at 17:25 when I was playing music through to 02/03 at 00:30.

You're now mentioning a phone, how does it play part in this?

Tag from Filename, doesn't change the Filename, it instead changes the tags. You might be looking for Organize Files instead.

Do note that Windows is not case sensitive, this limitation of Windows cause problems when just changing case as Windows doesn't see a change.

It is intresting that Windows file manager is not case sensitive. I don't know if that has been part of the issue. Anyway, I have spent a couple of evenings tidying up the library to read how I want it, and it appears to be stable.
Thanks for the pointers, so far so good.

Windows was never Case Sensitive. hell gets loose when on NAS (Linux) you have two folders one named "music" and one "Music" and you want to share that over CIFS/SMB.
