'Application error' when hitting backspace from search box [#15952]

Post by tbm72 »

Had this error appear twice today when typing in the search box and then hitting backspace until the search box is empty and then pressing backspace again. Can't seem to replicate it again now but it crashed MM twice for me today.

(latest version 3113)

Just happened again. Also I don't really understand what's supposed to happen when backspacing all the way back until you've got an empty search box. If I then press backspace again it seems to cycle through different nodes. (e.g. I start off in the Music node and then keep pressing backspace in the search box until it's empty. At that point when it's deleted all characters and I press backspace again the view then jumps to display random nodes.)

Backspace is used for navigation too. Please capture this in a debug log (step 4b) and attach the log to a Support Ticket: https://en.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=86643

I can actually reproduce that, using list view and all files

Start by adjusting the columns in list view maybe add one and change column widths

Then If I begin typing into the global search box, the view changes back to the unedited list view.

If I backspace away all characters and one more time, the edited list view returns

So far no crash, but the changing of the views is happening.

I can't replicate this either ;-( If you don't feel like sharing a debug log, perhaps a video?

Thanks so much!

FYI: I also can't replicate the crash, but changing of the view has been fixed as
https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=15952
for 2024.2.0.3150

..so it most probably fixes also the original crash.

Thanks for the update - I can't seem to replicate the crash anymore and can verify the backspace as navigation issue is also fixed in 3150.

Small note on the functionality after this fix though - let's say I start off on the Music node, so all of my entire library is visible. I then click in the search box and type (for example) 'the'. This correctly narrows the display down to just entries containing 'the'. Now if I hit backspace completely to remove all characters from the search box it says 'No results found' and no tracks are displayed.

But seeing as I'm back to where I was when I first clicked on the Music node, shouldn't it revert to displaying my entire library again? (i.e. the Search box is empty now so it shouldn't be narrowing down the results). Otherwise, although I'm on the Music node, I have to click the Music node again to get my entire libtrary displayed again.

Maybe that's intended functionality but feels like it shouldn't filter down to zero results if search box is empty.

You're still Search mode though at this point, you're just lacking a query.

That's fair enough. It just feels like you're in the same place as if you clicked into the search box but didn't type anything. In that situation you've also got an empty search string but it doesn't narrow the results down to nothing at that point. But I guess I'm just splitting hairs now so I'll leave it alone!

Reloading a previous list (could be 100's of thousands of items) would slow Search down unnecessarily.
