Mostly just replying to subscribe to the conversation, but I will definitely pay once the Linux version comes out! And I will pay a 2nd time for Windows (for work) and my partner will definitely also buy the Linux version since her media centre runs on Ubuntu.

Re: Who of you would like a MediaMonkey version for Linux?
I really don`t understand why a Linux version of MediaMonkey is not already available. Is it such a huge problem to port it to Linux? It would be the absolute killer music app in the Linux world, since there is not one other with comparable features. I tried almost all the available Linux players and was always deeply frustrated. Dear developers, please do something about it, I am sure, there will be many Linux users who will appreciate this and willing to pay a reasonable price for this. Me too, I own a Gold Licence already and would gladly pay a second time. #LinuxGrilli303 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2024 8:10 am Hello dear MediaMonkey community.
I would like to start a small survey:
Who of you would like a MediaMonkey version for Linux?
Since I don't know how the development team stands on this question and whether they would be able to do it at all and have the appropriate resources at their disposal, this survey is to be considered hypothetical.
regarding this question, I found an answer from a developer in 2022.
by Lowlander Sat Feb 12, 2022:
Current target is a MAC OS version first, but Linux is on the radar in the future.
As it looks, a Linux version is not unrealistic.
The background to my question is as follows:
I've been using Linux in parallel with Windows for about two years.
MediaMonkey 5 has established itself as my favorite program for editing and listening to my music collection.
Since I work mostly on Linux, I wanted to be able to use MediaMonkey on Linux as well.
Now it would be interesting to know how other users think about this topic and to see how great this need would be.
Would you also be willing to pay for such a version?
If I were me, I would be willing to pay a price of up to $30 for it. And now it's your turn, I'm looking forward to your comments.

After reading more posts and answers, I understand that the developer team is occupied with the Mac OS version.
So let's hope for an early success in a foreseeable future that you can move one to the Linux version

The main issue is that Delphi Linux compiler is not fully usable on complex apps like MM, I really hope we will get there.Rincewind_1960 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 4:41 am After reading more posts and answers, I understand that the developer team is occupied with the Mac OS version.![]()

Thank you for the info.

Re: MediaMonkey 5 for Debian / Linux
the MM Team has heard it many times that Linux users are desperately waiting for the MM Linux version. I have been a Windows 10 user with MM for the last decade pretty much however the Windows 10 curtain is closing and I have switched 2 years ago to Linux Mint on my laptop already however I am holding on to Windows 10 on my computer ONLY for accessing MM. Please let MM be available before Windows 10 support runs out and I can fully switch over to Linux WITH MM!!! Looking very much forward to a MM Gold for Linux. Kind Regards, from a MM Fan!!!!

Hi all,
Still looking forward to the linux version.
Right know I use Mediamonkey on my WinPC while te files are on a linux pc/server.
As a reaction to the development of MM for Apple:
I think the people who use and will use MM are Win or definitely Linux users!
Apple people is a tough crowd to convince. They tend to use nothing other than Apple apps.
Hopefully they finish the Mac version soon and create a linux version.

I agree with the sentiments expressed here. I have been a registered user of MediaMonkey for 19+ years!. I have now decided that Windows10 is the last gasp for Microsoft, and i'm busy migrating my main PC over to Linux (EndeavourOS, Arch-based).
MediaMonkey is one of the very few applications I consider important day to day that doesn't have a either a fully fledged Linux port, or a viable Free and Open Source (FOSS) alternative.
I like Ventis' products when they finally get them out of the door, but the pace of development is glacial. I would willingly pay again for a Linux version of MM, but I seriously wonder if I will still be compos-mentis enough to run my own media server by the time MM for linux is finally released.

I registered an account just to chime in on this topic. This is a yes please from me.
This very moment I'm in the process of setting up debian on a new pc build. I'm retiring my old pc and windows along with it.

Re: MediaMonkey 5 for Debian / Linux
Extremely yes very much this yes.
I've been loving Linux Mint and there's almost nothing I miss from Windows. This is the "almost." The alternatives aren't great, and that's kind of a problem for a media PC. Not only would I be willing to pay for a completely separate license, but I'd even be willing to put up a $1000 bounty to see it done. For the good of all humanity.
Eagerly awaiting any new on this front.

+1, also no issue buying a new license here
Re: MediaMonkey 5 for Debian / Linux
I've looked thru some Linux apps now, and despite I couldn't find a full replacement, the following list might bear a somewhat decent alternative for some at least:
- Fooyin
- Sayonara
- Clementine or Strawberry (pretty much the same)
- gMusicBrowser (abandoned)
- rhythmbox (gMusicBrowser fork)
- Harmonoid (honorable mention)
All the above support search, multi-level filtering and multi-file meta data edit, most still can RIP CDs, download covers, lyrics etc., and convert file types. None of them offer the complete package tho.
Note that you need to install most apps from rpm rather than flatpaks to add network shares to your library!
Also make sure to check out the apps' Plugins menues to see what they're actually capable of.
Fooyin is what I believe comes closest to MM, despite unfortunately lacking ALL online features as well as file conversion, ripping and exporting - anything external basically. It supports community plugins however, so who knows what will be once this one's grown mature. Check it out anyway, it's really amazing.
Strawberry and Clementine are more feature complete and come with several streaming plugins, e.g. Spotify. However, usability seems to be of second thought for the developers.
gMusicBrowser seems feature packed af, but looks n feels stone old and is apparently abandoned as of 2020/2021, too. As I couldn't find any RHEL rpm to import my music collection (from network share; see above) I didn't really test it either. I believe it's still available on Debian/apt tho.
Rhythmbox is an obvious fork of gMusicBrowser but way modernized. However, it's stripped of many features, and if it wasn't for the online features I'd take Fooyin over this one any time.
Harmanoid lacks a ton of features, but look&feel is very similar to MM, thus I deem it worthy an honorable mention here. Anyway, uninstalled.
One of Sayonara's several quite convenient details imo is that you can group subgenres (e.g. 'Rock' containing Goth Rock, Hard Rock, Classic Rock etc.). Despite its comparatively few features and quite... unique design, Sayonara still might be my overall favorite this far.
Hope this helps anyone.

Found another: "DeadBeef"
Strange name and even stranger "design mode", in which you build your very own app layout...
It's quite far from intuitive and easy, but once you're done, DeadBeef might turn out to be the exact MediaMonkey alternative you were looking for.

Re: MediaMonkey 5 for Debian / Linux
Hi all,
I just wanted to also put my hand up for full support of any potential Linux version of MM. I recently converted to Linux Mint, and the only thing I kept Windows on my system for was MediaMonkey. I would also be happy to pay a separate licence for one if it ever happens. I haven't mucked around with Wine or anything like that, as I'm pretty novice when it comes to systems (setting up a dual boot PC was stretching my knowledge, but I got there in the end).
Thanks again to the dev team, either way MM is an incredible program (both MMW & MMA).

Hey @flojisan, I totally feel you! I've been in the same boat—switched to Linux for all the right reasons, but really miss some of the smooth Windows-native tools like MM. Tried Wine as well, but it's just not the same. I'd also love to see a native Linux version or even an official statement from the MM devs about future support. Fingers crossed they have something in the works!
