Sync on IPOD using MM, ipod skips songs only / no music

Post by rot555 »

On synchronizing to IPOD 5th generation all runs smoothly, all files transferred, can see files in MM interface and in windows explorer or powerdesk interface, but on playing any song ipod skips from one song to the next without playing anything. Tried my full library (24gb) as well as small excerpts (300mb) , many times , to no avail.

Any ideas anyone?

all mp3 files, play fine on small 1gb device, also were playing before on the ipod, but by mistake I allowed the pc to boot up Itunes which deleted my library / database which I had done using yamipod. I quit yamipod as it kept on falling over with weird error messages but my ipod played music fine until the stuff up with Itunes (craptunes) Thanks for responding !
Try restoring your ipod to factory settings (using the ipod updater), then sync'ing a few files and see if that fixes it.

Hmm... it seems like lots of other people are having the same problem, I know I've seen it in other threads on the mediamonkey forum and a quick google search showed people having the same type of error using iTunes to sync. A couple of questions: Have you tried sync'ing on another computer? Did you try reformatting the iPod hard drive?

Sync on IPOD using MM, ipod skips songs only / no music

Have been syncing on my laptop and my desktop, both networked and hooked into net as well, both have the same mp3 music library in windows type directories, which is why I started looking at alternatives to craptunes, as Itunes scrambles my directories in a most unpleasant manner, which means I have to keep 2 backups plus the live one in sync, etc etc., but I have never tried to format the Ipod. Thanks for your help !

Hmm .. thanks. Done all that, (pluging ipod into Itunes, resetting device, just as described, enable disk use, disable auto sync, etc. )
no change after transferring again 8 songs using MM.
Thanks !

I was having this same problem - it seems the way I fixed it was after using MM to sync, I had to leave my iPod plugged in, start iTunes, and let it do it's thing (determining gapless playback info, etc.) and when it was done, it worked. Note that there is NO music in my iTunes library, and I only use it for podcasts.

I had the same problem (files appear but don't play) using a 5th gen 30G iPod with v1.2.1 firmware with MM 2.5.5 and iTunes 7.1.1 (all latest revs as of 27-Mar-07).

Here's the fix:

In the MM iPod Properties->Device Configuration->Compatability Settings, make sure you've selected "Force iTunes-style folders" and "Trim path and/or filename length to 31".

I confirmed these are the required settings by testing with each of the other three combinations of these settings, and none work.

Thank you, jaeux. I have been pulling my hair out to figure out why my U2 iPod suddenly started skipping files. It began after an iTunes update. :| I made the corrections you suggested, as well as uninstalling iTunes and deleting its registry entries. At that point all of the files it was skipping appeared in the non auto-sync list. I deleted them from the device, then rescanned them into the library. Sync, and BAM--plays like a peach!

Thank you!!

I don't have to hate Apple, for the moment.

I had the same problem as well and found a solution that has since worked flawlessly. Go into your iPod configuration screen in the MM options and under the last tab, check the box that says "Force iTunes style folders" then try re-syncing

I had this problem, made this change, and fixed! Seems like kind of a stringent limitiation of my 80gb iPod to require such short names, but it didn't work without it.
