Re: MM Android Player
PlayerPro seems to be abandoned by its developer, there hasn't been any post on their forums by a developer in ages.
It does work for my purpose, but how long will that last without dev support.
All the other solutions are sub par.
PowerAmp doesnt use id3 ratings, WinAmp only synchs to the internal memory and not the SD card, Google Play doesnt have 5 star ratings etc etc
It is just incomprehensible, that a system with a large user base as android has, does not have a solution for simply synching music back and forth between desktop and device while keeping play counts and ratings.
Apple had that down 6 years ago....
DoubleTwist seems to have it too, but its to proprietary for me
MMA will hopefully plug that hole, once it is released.
I do understand the frustrations about the seemingly better iOS support by MM, iOS6 support was ironed out days after the release of it, wheres there are still many Android synch problems, MMA beta pending etc.
Far be it from me to tell the developers what to concentrate on, thats their business. But it does feel a bit that Android is a bit of a stepchild. Not only here but with many applications and developers out there.
Either case, since there is no solution out there that works for me, waiting for MMA is my only option.

Re: MM Android Player
iOS6 was added as Apple didn't break anything going iOS5 > iOS6 (unlike iOS4 > iOS5 which took a year to be supported). If you have sync issues have you reported them (including debug logs if useful)? Also are you sure it is a MediaMonkey issue as my Android sync woes are reproducible on other players as well (ie. it is a device issue, not MediaMonkey issue)?

Hey.
Thanks very much for the reply, my frustrations are certainly not directed at you guys here at MM, i think support wise you are one of the better shops out there.
Yes I did submit logs for my problems (Galaxy S3 Synching), have not yet heard back on them.
It may very well be that this is a Device specific issue, as it seems that USB over MTP support would solve the problem right away. But not holding out much hope for samsung to fix this anytime soon.
The logs show excessive database polling and redundant file checking though, so there may be room for improvement even with the MTP solution.
Either case, while MMA will not solve that particular problem, maybe the wireless synch will circumvent it alltogether.

Re: MM Android Player
I guess my concerns weren't specific to the technicalities of working with android; in a basic sense, MM works with Android. But none of the reasons I started using MM seem to be particularly supported on my phone. I might as well be manually loading tracks over. I appreciate it might be more a samsung issue (I've got a SG2) than a android issue, but basically I just miss the tight integration I had between my portable and home music playing when I used my ipod.
I've never bothered raising a issue as they're all problems other people are noting.

or does the problem/bug still exists? would you need beta-testers?

Re: MM Android Player
Other 'show stopping' bugs may have come up since then. There's been some Android related bugs being added and cleared out on the bug tracker lately, so there's definitely some progress going on internally. They will run a public beta cycle, but they're wanting something somewhat stable before they put it out there for testing. That's the "release" we're waiting for, not a full on release, but a release of it into a public beta test.
Re: MM Android Player
yeah that might be the case, but still it would be interesting to get more infos about the progress.
and what bug tracker are you talking about? do you mean this site: http://www.mediamonkey.com/information/changelog/ ?
this site has nothing to do with the mm android app and doesn't tell us anything about the progress?!?
if you have a link to an android mm app related bug tracker that would be awesome...
as i already said, i think the only mistake was to fire people up by telling them how close everything is
hope to hear from jiri & peke soon (whether or not it's good news)
cheers,

Re: MM Android Player
I certainly don't think it's a mistake to keep people informed of progress, even if unforeseen delays crop up. Most people are well aware of the kind of problems any software development can throw up such as fixing one bug can throw up something new to sort out. I for one don't mind the delays so much as not knowing the current state of play. I support the idea of a publicly viewable bug tracker, but not at the cost of slowing development.

I don't need a public bug tracker, I don't assume that the developers are hiding anything from us.
But I would really appreciate a weekly update on this, in a bit more detail than currently provided.
Communication is everything.
As you can see this is a much sought after addition to the MM solution and many people are interested in the progress.

Re: MM Android Player
I don't think anyone is worried about the dev's hiding anything, hell if they didn't want to progress the project they wouldn't need to hide it, they could just chuck it to the side. I'm just curious, its also nice to have a sense of progress as you see issues being identified and resolved... a bit like track and trace for parcels
although when it spends 5 days in a sorting facility everyone gets outraged

Re: MM Android Player
I reread this thread today and no one told that Release of MediaMonkey for Android (MMA as internally called) is closely tied up to release of MediaMonkey 4.1 for Windows (MMW as it is now Internally called due fact that the MM8 [MediaMonkey for Metro aka Windows 8] is also prepared and in internal testing).
Few things that were show stoppers
are fixed in past week or two and some issues that needed to be retested for giving you the users quality of MMW you used to.

Re: MM Android Player
The list of bugs Peke posted (and I'm thinking there may have been a couple more Android related ones?) is pretty much what I was referring to as there being activity in the bug tracker. The "MMA" tracker may be closed, but given the relationship between MMA and MMW (especially 4.1, as I had summised), these bugs being cleared out, again, shows there's some progress. As if they weren't working on the MMA side of things, they probably wouldn't be bothering with clearing out bugs relating to MMW communicating with Androids (especially in a way that MMA will offer; Wi-Fi).
I get it though, I do. I'm impatiently waiting to come here and see a beta announcement for MMW 4.1 & MMA, frustrated each time I don't see it. Sure, the Devs letting us know more info about it's progress might be nice, but they say it''s coming and that's good enough for me. Good things come to those who wait and all.

Thanks to Peke and Lowlander for the info. It certainly looks like MMW & MMA is going to be a far more interesting proposition than I suspected at the start of development. It's looking like it's going to be well worth the wait.
