If you create some partial playlists and sync a lower number of tracks each time does it work reliably? Try a handful of playlists, each with 1000 tracks and gradually work your way up to 30k. I appreciate that this isn't a permanent solution but it may get you started and give some diagnostic information that may help find the root problem.
I'm in the process of trying that now. One other thing I've spotted is v.high cpu usage - when syncing/converting my CPU usage always maxes out at 100%, which isn't good as my MM machine is also my TV server, so playback is jerky. I think this might have been contributing to the MM crashes.

I've solved this by selecting 2 cores in options but it still goes up 60-80%, which is a lot for my i7 920 machine. I never had this problem with earlier versions of the plugin/V4 so I think it's something that's been introduced in the latest builds.

I've seen problems where the file is zero length, file permissions very odd, duplication of file names, illegal characters in fie names ... let's see what you can find :-)
Can't find the log. When I set the option to debug=2, and click apply, it reverts to "Do Nothing". Is this the expected behavior? If so, where's the log go?

Guys, I posted this elsewhere before I saw this thread so apologies for cross posting, however I would be grateful if anyone can help:

I was running MM3 Gold and installed iOS 5 on my ipod touch witghout checking here first. :(
The Hierophant wrote:I was running MM3 Gold and installed iOS 5 on my ipod touch witghout checking here first. :(

Anyway I came here, read about the issues and saw:
If you must upgrade to iOS 5, or if you've already done so, then you can continue to use MediaMonkey to manage your music, and to sync via iTunes by using the iTunes MediaMonkey 4 Plugin (a similar plugin for MM3 is also available via the support site). It bypasses MediaMonkey's native iOS synchronization routines, and instead treats iTunes as a hardware device, and relies on iTunes to do the actual file transfer.
I upgraded to MM4 and installed the itunes plugin. The plugin seems to be working (I get an itunes like Screen in the main mediamonkey window) but it doesn't sync with my ipod touch. I think the issue could be that I am trying to synch .flac files and of course itunes doesn't like .flacs. (I have media monkey set up to convert .flac to .mp3 when synching with my ipod.)

Any ideas on what the problem is and how I might resolve it?

The debug output has to be collected in the standard MM manner using the DebugView tool. Have a look in the "In case of difficulty" part of the manual ...\MediaMonkey\Plugins\d_itunes4-manual.pdf.

You should convert the flac files for iTunes in the same manner as you used to with MM3 and the iPod. If you can get playable tracks into iTunes then it will then sync to your iPod.

I looked for the manual. For whatever reason, I don't have the pdf after installation in that folder. :(

I've just checked mine and I didn't have one either! Have a look in c:\users\steve\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey\Plugins this is where files are put if they aren't installed as administrator.

Ok, I'll check. I login to my PC as administrator, but we'll see.....

Hi there,

Could you give me some help with the following problem:
The plug-in worked fine on my old pc (XP).
On my new pc (Windows 7, 64bit) it will only work if I change the cachepad to: C:\Users\Frietje\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Automatisch toevoegen aan iTunes.
The files are automatically put into the iTunes database. When I open iTunes the ratings and playcounts are lost. How can I fix the ratings and playcounts?
I've the latest version of MM, iTunes and the plug-in.

You have the same problem as was done by DaveFrischknecht. Please see my reply on Thu Nov 17, 2011 9:02 pm.

Here is a copy of the "Cache Path" section from the manual.

A location that the synchronised files will be copied to. This is similar to the iTunes media library but can be positioned to your needs and has a more consistent naming convention which minimizes duplications.

The default location is <My Documents>\MMiTunes.

The folder must be fully writeable by your user account.

Do not be tempted to use the <MyDocuments>\Music\iTunes folder or anywhere below this point. This is a special folder that cannot be written to.

As the cache content can be quite large this might be assigned onto a drive letter other that C:

Hi Mark,

thanks for your reply. I tried to use the following cachepad: C:\Users\frietje\Music\MMiTunes (there is about 100 gb space, so shouldn't be a problem) and I also tried to E:\Music\MMiTunes. Both didn't work out. The strange thing is that only the cachepad C:\Users\Frietje\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Automatisch toevoegen aan iTunes workes, but it doesn't copy the playlists, playcounts and ratings.

I haven't got a clue where to fix this. I already tried most of the tips on this topic.

The reason that the folder works is that iTunes monitors that folder and picks up any files being deposited into it i.e. it's not the plugin doing it at all.

Switch on some debug and capture some output please. Instructions in manual.

The more observant among you might have spotted that certain tracks aren't copied to iTunes.

Any filename with '/' or a double quote will not work. This is symptomatic of this bugfix http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=8083

17/11/2011
* Manual updated with more FAQ
* Manual made more MM4 aligned
* DeleteEmptyFolders() gets error trapped
18/11/2011
* TerminateThreads() called when more than %age of files are to be deleted.
* default %age delete made 5%
21/11/2011
* TerminateThreads() used if iTunes is not running at start of sync
22/11/2011
* Manual addition for diagnosis DebugView
* Additional prompt for build 1459 installation.
23/11/2011
* safeFilename() used to prevent artists and albums generating illegal file names
