Home screen not showing all files? An issue with 'classical' music? [#21424]

Post by donmacn »

Hi folks,
I'm aware of the ask that we don't repeat stuff, but I have searched and gone back through several pages of topics before posting. If it's been done before, my apologies - my search skills will have let me down.

I've been using MM on Android quite happily for a long while (currently version 2.0.0.1173). I don't "sync" using MM on the desktop, preferring to manually add/delete files to/from the phone's music folder from my NAS using Windows Explorer. I don't change the stuff on the phone that much, so this has been OK.

Today I added some instrumental/classical music albums to the music folder. Great for noise cancelling headphones on long train journeys, while still allowing me to work. So, I know the music is in the phone folder, and I know the phone can 'see' it, and that MM also shows it when I drill down a bit, but it doesn't show up on the usual home/artists screen.

So -Screenshots - sorry these are so huge. I followed the instructions to post them, but can't see anything about resizing.

Number 1 - showing the list of artists on the 'home' screen which is my usual 'goto': Image No sign of Antonio Vivaldi...

Screenshot 2 - I go to 'folders' Image

Then I have two choices - Image

And if I choose the lower of these above, there's Antonio Vivaldi as hoped: Image

My question is why these files don't show up in the main 'artists' view? I've done a couple of rescans, but still not working.

In my searching I did find a reference to music tagged as 'classical' not showing up in the 'music' view... but this might be a red herring?

For example, I have 3 Ludovico Einaudi albums in the folder -one shows up OK in the home screen; two don't.

What am I doing wrong, or what do I need to do to fix this? Is it just a case of editing the tags to change the genre to something else?

Any help very gratefully received.

Yes, the first screenshot shows you're in Music section which excludes things like Classical Music, Podcasts, etc.

Thanks Lowlander - that's a "Doh" moment from me. I had no idea that things were sorted/displayed like that.

Once you know, it's all there.

Question: Is there any way to change this? I don't want classical music separated from the rest of my music, and it doesn't work that way in MMW.

No, MMA always had it separate.

Can I make that a feature request? It's a major drawback.

How to remove Classical collection in Android MM?

Post by babydinosaur »

Hi all.
I hate the way MM segregates Classical music from the rest, because it breaks up albums which have a mix of classical and non-classical music (e.g. my perennial favourite Inspector Morse Vol 1).
I have managed to remove the 'Classical' collection on my Windows MM so everything appears int he 'Music' collection, but I can't find a way of doing that on Android. So on my phone there are two separate Inspector Morse Vol 1 albums, one in the 'Classical' collection, and one in the standard 'Albums' collection. This means I can't listen to the album in its entirety on my phone. :x
Any ideas how I can get around this?
Thanks

For MMW you do not need to do that as you can enable Entire Library collection and stop worry. As for MMA unfortunately https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=21424 needs to be implemented.
