Please help wake up my Monkey

Post by Miles »

I am running ver. 4.1.11.1783 which states it's the latest version.

I have to admit, I've been not using Media Monkey for several years, BUT.. all of my library info and playlists seem to be intact except that my media has moved (same structure, just a new network drive) and I don't know the best way to let MediaMonkey know the new path. I also don't want to loose my playlists. To be clear MEDIA MONKEY IS SHOWING all of the 9000+ file names, and essentially what has changed is the name of the network drive is now PersonalCloud/Public/Music vs just Public/Music as it shows in the PATHs in Media Monkey.

Any advise would be great.

Hi,
You should do few things to ensure you do not loose anything and also have backups of your MM.DB.

1. BACKUP MM.DB to safe place (see its location here)
2. download latest MM4 setup from https://www.mediamonkey.com/support/kno ... diamonkey/ and install it.
3. If all tracks are still grayed and non playable Go to all tracks -> CTRL+A (Select All) -> Click File -> Locate moved missing and select HDD where your files are.
4. wait and MM should find them and update path

If They are listed in UNMOVED or in UN ALLOCATED tabs then please Open Support ticket so that we can step in to help.

After we resolve this also you should consider upgrading to latest MM 2024 (Windows 10+) which have more features to locate missing tracks and prevent such mistakes in future.

Thanks
FWIW, I'm on ver 4.1.11.1783 and it says it's latest version. Is that correct or is that not MM4?

Thanks again

The current version is MediaMonkey 2024.0.0.3082, the last MediaMonkey 4 release was 4.1.31.1919: viewtopic.php?t=8811&sd=d

In the above directions, when I click "Locate moved missing and select HDD where your files are."

I get "this is only available in the Gold Version"

Is this correct? Would have been nice to know before I installed the latest MM4.

Just for fun, as I was planning on getting Gold eventually... it wants to upgrade to 2024 version. Is that ok being that I haven't got the database looking at the actual correct location of the music yet?

Yes, that feature is GOLD only.

I upgraded to gold, and attempted the "Locate moved missing and select HDD where your files are."" step.

The first time, it seemed to read everything but do nothing. So I tried again, but this time rather than selecting the path that was already there (and incorrect) I added the new path. Now it looks like it's actually just going to end up doubling the size of my database as it seems to be "re-adding" all the files and the count started from the number of files I had selected in CTRL-A and went up from there.

I just clicked ALL (it's still adding) and there are indeed now TWO entries for each song in my database.

Did you scan files anytime before you Locate Moved/Missing Files? That would explain the duplicates. Using Added information you can remove the recently added, leaving the original files.

Do I just highlight the "wrong" entries and click delete "which asks if you really want to delete these files" as opposed to something that just removes them from the database? The safety "are you sure" prompt is misleading. Of course I realize they aren't actually pointing to the files, but wondered if there was a way to remove from DB another procedure.

Thanks for all your help on this !!!

That's the way, make sure to only remove from database (as otherwise you'll loose your files).

Sorry, I don't mean to be a pest, but how do I "make sure to only remove from database " or do you mean I need to make sure I ONLY highlight the entries pointing to the wrong location and ignor the prompt that says I'm removing files?

Not you can see the old (no files are there) path [public}\music\music... and the new records \\personalcloud\public\music\music..

I just highlighted a few of the entries that need to be cleaned out for the purposes of these screenshots.

This is what it looks like when I get ready to click "remove".

Then this is the prompt.

[public}\ files would be non-working files, so it should be fine. I'm not sure why it doesn't prompt how to remove, but MediaMonkey 4 is really old.

Would I be better off to upgrade to the latest version? Would there be better options?

I already have the Gold License
