Error Message : Cannot find help file

Post by Gaston Maurin »

I'm a new user of Songs-DB Gold, and I make frequent use of your excellent "Help" function. After using the "Help" function several times and closing it each time, the next time I try to use it I get a Windows message, "Cannot find the Songs-Db.hlp Help file. Check to see that the file exists on your disk. If it doesn't, you need to reinstall it."

The file DOES exist on my disk in the appropriate directory, that is

C:\Program Files\Songs-DB\SONGS-DB.hlp

along with the Songs-DB.GID file.

If I use Windows Explorer to go to the file and double click, it launches, but when use Songs-DB and click Help/Content (or any of the "How to" functions), I get the above error message. Reinstalling Songs-DB fixes the problem, but then it recurs after a few uses, and I must re-install again.

It appears that a pointer is somehow getting lost or corrupted because the file itself is undamaged. Is this a known bug? Is there any workaround other than re-installing?

Thanks,

Gaston

Thanks for the notification, some users already reported similar behaviour, I try to find out what can be wrong, because I have not seen this problem so far. I hope to find it soon to correct it to the next release.

Having the same problem here. The HELP file was originally there when downloaded, but now it has disappeared.

So far I had no success in reproducing this error. It is also possible that Windows Help system is responsible for this problem.

In any case, I plan to change the help file to the CHM format (compiled HTML), so it will be nicer and problems will disapper.
