Media Verification and MD5 Sig

Post by dngnmstr »

I have approx 100 CD's of MP3's that ive been collecting for about 4 years now. Some of the CD-Rs are pretty old, and a few have minor scratches/blemishes etc.

I am wondering how "thorough" your MD5 hash is. The help file indicates that the MD5 sig is calculated from the song (not including tags, metadata, etc) which is great, but what im wondering is if the hash is created from the WHOLE song, or if it uses the first 100k, or the first 1MB etc. The idea being that if I scan in a CD and it cant read the whole song, the CD's probably bad and its time for me to rescue the rest of the MP3's on the CD before it gets worse. But if the hash is only made from a certain portion of the song, then it's not going to catch any problems that occur towards the end of a given song.

Thanks for a great product.

The MD5 hash is calculated from the whole file if it is smaller than 15 MB, else it is calculated from first, middle and last 5 MB. Thus it should server well for your purpose.
