Inaccurate info when scanning?

Beitrag von jdrexx »

I was absolutely loving MM but now I am a bit frustrated. Here is what I did...

I used MM the first time around and scanned about 1500 files and everything was peachy. All info showed as I would expect. Then I used a different program to edit many of the file tags. So now I wanted to update the MM library. So I cleared the library and tried to rescan the 1500 files...

First problem... about half the times I try to do the scan, it doesn't do anything. It does appear to open a progress "bar/window" at the bottom but it is doing nothing and isn't scanning. In fact when I try to do the scan again, it will open another progress "bar/window" at the bottom and just stack it on top of the other one. I wouldn't have even noticed the blank gray bars at the bottom except that the window resized when another bar was added and I noticed that then noticed the 3 bars (i tried 3 times) stacked at the bottom. I clicked one and dragged up to see what it was and it was titled "Progress Window" (I think).

Second (and bigger) problem... Once I did get the scan to work (didn't really do anything different), it was displaying corrupt info in the genre, and album fields . It would have a zillion different variations for a genre (Classical, Classical'????, Classicalcelli, Classicalh????, Classicall?????, Classicall?????$??, etc. etc.). It was doing similar giberish at the end of album too. It worked right the first time I used the program??? I thought I might have corrupted the library when I cleared it so I uninstalled MM and deleted the MM folder in Program files rebooted then reinstalled - SAME ISSUES after.

Any Thoughts?? I was loving this program til this happened - infact I left a stellar feedback on CNET. Contact me at jdrexx@yahoo.com if you need more info - i'd like to help because I think you have a great program going here.

Thanks,
Jason

File scan stalls / introduces strange genres

Beitrag von rusty »

It sounds to me as if the program you used to edit some of the tags may have introduced some sort of corruption (though I can't be certain without actually seeing the files). Can you:
a) tell me how were the files initially ripped and tagged?
b) tell me when you subsequently tagged the files, what app did you use?
c) send me a sample of one of the files?

Lastly, re. the apparent scan failure, if MM comes up against a track that appears corrupt, it spends an inordinate amount of time trying to glean information from the tags. I believe that you were probably seeing the standard scan progress bar, and that it was simply stalled at one of these files (my experience is that it usually continues the scan after several minutes of trying to scan such a file).
