Cannot play local music to Kodi when VMWare is installed

Post by andrum99 »

Here's a strange one! I can successfully play music from MediaMonkey on my Windows 7 machine to a Raspberry Pi 2 running Kodi via UPnP / DLNA. I can play music stored on Kodi to Kodi, and music on the Windows machine to Kodi. Unfortunately with VMWare Player or Workstation installed on my Windows machine, MediaMonkey cannot play music stored on the Windows machine to Kodi. It is still able to play music stored on Kodi to Kodi. Removing VMWare fixes the problem. Is there a way to get this working with VMWare installed?

I believe there was a discussion on this (related to MMA).

Are you using MediaMonkey 4.1.6?

Yes - I'm using the latest version I downloaded yesterday. What is MMA?

MediaMonkey for Android.

I believe the discussion centered along MM using the VMWare connection instead of local network, but I'm not certain. Disabling/turning VMWare should resolve that though (no uninstall needed).

In the Media Server settings you do have the option to choose IP to be used by the Media Server. I haven't use VMWare so I don't know exactly how it operates.

I went into the options in MediaMonkey and noticed that it had assigned the wrong IP address to the Media Server - it had chosen one for VMnet1, which is one of the extra networks VMware creates for itself. I then assigned the correct IP, on my wired ethernet connection, and tried playing local music to Kodi - nothing. I then disabled the adaptors for VMnet1 and VMnet8 and it works! Since I don't use VMnet1 or VMnet8 this is not too much of a problem. However, MediaMonkey should be able to differentiate between networks since it is trying to play to a network device that is accessible via only one of the network adapters.

I have discovered an application called Mezzmo that works OK with VMware without any fiddling. I would prefer to use MediaMoney though as I prefer the UI. I am prepared to buy the gold version of MediaMonkey if this can be fixed.

I suggest you capture it in a debug log (step 4b) and send the log to support: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... ?f=20&t=69
