Nothing Transfers During Sync Process - IPOD Nano

Post by SS »

When i try to sync to my Nano, nothing happens. I received the access violation errors which is discussed in other postings, so i uninstalled everything, deleted everything out of my registry and reinstalled the software. That seemed to clear up the violation error, but nothing happens when i try to move music around. It looks like the songs are transferring, but when i view the list of music on my Nano nothing.... Anyone have any adivce? Thanks

Not sure what settings you are referring to. Can you let me know what you are looking for? I have kept the settings in MM as the defaults.

More info: It's weird. All i do is connect my ipod to the computer and it shows up in the tree, but it is interesting to me that is recognizes the name of my IPod that i setup in iTunes (have iTunes on my computer). I have tried to sync songs from all options: artist, album, playlist, but nothing happens. Then, it somehow deleted all my current playlists on my ipod which i had setup via iTunes.
Then, i tried to setup a new connection and when i did this it looks like it recoginzed both connections as the same device, but it would let me copy music to the new connect. Where that music went i have no idea b/c it didn't go to my IPod...

Thanks for your help.

i don't know where in itunes you set up the name of the ipod but MM recognizes that name because it looks into the internal database stored on the ipod.
first of all start itunes and got to the options->ipod. there you can disable any auto-synchronize options, unmark the checkbox "start itunes whenever this ipod is connected".
after that start MM and go to tools->options->portable/audio devices. mark the ipod entry and hit configure.

the ipod-configuration window opens where you can see the library and the playlists you have created in MM
on top of the window you can see two radio-buttons "Synchronize entire library" and "Synchronize only the following"
in my case i choose "Synchronize only the following" because i only synchronize playlists
in the upper right corner there is a check-box "Advanced". if you check it a "Edit" button appears under the library-window
this is usefull if you want to select a lot of playlists a one time (just select them, push the "Edit" button and in the opening window push "OK".
the selected playlists should have the checkbox marked now.

in the second step under the "Synchronization options" the only things i have checked
are the "Delete tracks that aren't on the Auto-Synchronization List from the device" and the "Confirm deletion (recommended)" checkboxes
i don't let MM auto-synchronize, because i just want to have a bit more control of what happens when i connect the ipod

under the "Auto-Conversion" Tab, which ist only working in the Gold Version of MM, i don't let MM do an conversion, because all my files are ready for synchronizing

at last, under the "Device configuration" Tab i have checked the
"Force iTunes-style folders (\iPod_Control\Music\F00\, etc.)",
"Trim path and/or filename length to 31" and
"Update database based on all Track changes (takes longer)".

with theese settings all my synchronize actions are working perfectly.
album-arts are stored inside the mp3's and are shown on my colour-display ipod

after setting up this steps you only have to connect your ipod and after a while (until MM recognized it)
you have to push the "syncronize to portable/audio device" in the Menu-Bar

the fact that MM deleted all your playlists from the ipod is a normal behaviour because when a playlist exists on the ipod and not in the MM library it will be deleted.

i don't know what you mean with "i tried to setup a new connection"? but just try the setting described above, if it not works, i think you can try to reset to the factory defaults with the ipod-updater. that should be included on the system cd that came with your ipod.

maybe this helps
