Playback Stops when Screen Turns Off

Windows can disable USB Sound Devices and Network Hardware when the screen turns off. This can cause playback to be stopped when using an USB Sound Device, when playing files from a network share/DLNA Server or streaming via Chromecast/DLNA to a client.

For USB Sound Devices:

  1. Use Microsoft USBView to locate USB HUB where sound card is connected
  2. In Device manager locate same HUB under Details -> Hardware ID
  3. Go to power management
  4. Disable Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power -> OK (to confirm changes)
  5. Close all settings and restart Windows (Optional to see if setting is persistent)

For Network Hardware:

  1. In Device manager under Network tree node locate WiFi/LAN Adapter
  2. Go to power management
  3. Disable Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power -> OK (to confirm changes)
  4. Close all settings and restart Windows (Optional to see if setting is persistent)
