Before starting Sync it's recommended to read the full Sync documentation from MediaMonkey for Windows.
Wi-Fi Sync configuration in MMA allows you to configure most of what you'll need to sync. But if you want to configure more advanced functionality such as auto-conversion, you want to review the full Sync documentation for MediaMonkey for Windows.

To get MMW to recognize MMA, a 'Device Profile' describing the device and associated sync settings needs to be created. This can be done:
* Via MMA's Wi-Fi Sync functionality, by connecting via Wi-Fi to the MMW Server.
* Via USB. This is done automatically when you connect your device via USB to the PC running MMW.

Before being able to do the first Sync, the Sync needs to be setup. This can be done in 2 ways:

* Via USB, for this connect your device via USB to the PC running MMW. MMW will then create a device profile which will contain all the Sync settings.
* Via wi-fi, this sets up the Device Profile when first connecting via wi-fi to the MMW Server.
To be able to Sync you'll need to setup the connection in MMA in both cases.

** Server content. Allows you to select what content & metadata will be synced to the device. Note: If you want to regularly refresh device content each time you sync, it's useful to select Auto-playlists (e.g. 1000 tracks rated 4-stars+ that haven't been played within 30 days).
* Sync from the device:
** File metadata. If enabled, syncs metadata (e.g. ratings) and play history from MMA to MMW when syncing.
** Device content. If enabled, syncs files and playlists from MMA to MMW (i.e. those that aren't synced from MMW to MMA) when syncing.
** Confirm. If enabled, shows a confirmation dialog allowing you to choose which which files to Sync from MMA to MMW, when syncing.
* Delete from this device. Allow you to choose whether to delete files from the device on Sync. This is useful for deleting 'old' content from the device and regularly refreshing it with new content.
** None will delete no media files from the device on Sync, even if they're no longer selected to be Synced to MMA.
** Unselected server files will remove any media files from the device that were previously Synced by MMW to MMA, but are no longer selected to be Synced. This excludes any files removed from MMW.
** All unselected files will delete all media files not included on the Sync list. This includes any files that have been removed from MMW. This option is useful if you have duplicates that you want to delete from the device (caused by syncing content from both MediaMonkey and other apps). Use this option carefully (i.e. with 'confirm' enabled) as it will delete files that have been added to MMA but are not in MMW.
** Confirm will show a confirmation of which files to delete during Sync when enabled.

Sync settings can be setup in either MMW or MMA after the Device Profile has been created on first connection. Either method modifies the same settings that are saved in the MMW database. Setting Sync up in MMW can be easier and exposes more settings than available in MMA.

Introduction

MediaMonkey for Android (MMA) can Synchronize media files and associated metadata (Album Art, play history, etc.) via Wi-Fi Sync with MediaMonkey for Windows (MMW). This requires both MediaMonkey for Android and MediaMonkey for Windows.

Wi-Fi Sync configuration in MMA allows you to configure most of what you'll need to sync. But if you want to configure more advanced functionality such as auto-conversion, you want to review the full Sync documentation for MediaMonkey for Windows.

Initial Setup

To get MMW to recognize MMA, a 'Device Profile' describing the device and associated sync settings needs to be created. This can be done:

  • Via MMA's Wi-Fi Sync functionality, by connecting via Wi-Fi to the MMW Server.
  • Via USB. This is done automatically when you connect your device via USB to the PC running MMW.

This article focuses on the Wi-Fi Sync approach.

Wi-fi Sync Setup

Wi-fi Sync requires MMW to be running and for the Media Server to be enabled on MMW (it's enabled by default).

To initiate your first Wi-Fi Sync with MMA:

  1. Tap Settings > Library & Sync in the menu in MMA.
  2. Tap Sync configuration wizard to start the setup.
  3. Tap the UPnP Server from the MMW installation you want to Sync with (ie. MediaMonkey 5 (Server)).
MMW will show a prompt asking whether you want to give MMA permission to connect. In MMW, agree to give this permission.
  4. Click Next
  5. Enable the storage locations that you want content Synced to. MMW will create a Device Profile per storage found on your device.
  6. On the 'Sync settings' page, Choose 'Server Content' (e.g. Playlists, Artists, etc) that you'd like to sync (see 'Sync Settings' below for more detail). If you want to configure auto-conversion or other more advanced settings, continue the setup in MMW.
  7. Click 'Next' to advance to the final page of the Wizard, and then 'Sync Now' to initiate the Wi-Fi Sync

If you didn't select any content to be Synced nothing will be Synced.

Sync Settings

Device Profile Settings

Device Profile settings determine what content is synced between a given storage location on a device and MMW. In MMA, they are described as 'Sync Settings' and are configurable via the Sync Configuration Wizard or directly via Settings > Library & Sync > Sync Settings

  • Sync from the Server
    • Server content. Allows you to select what content & metadata will be synced to the device. Note: If you want to regularly refresh device content each time you sync, it's useful to select Auto-playlists (e.g. 1000 tracks rated 4-stars+ that haven't been played within 30 days).
  • Sync from the device:
    • File metadata. If enabled, syncs metadata (e.g. ratings) and play history from MMA to MMW when syncing.
    • Device content. If enabled, syncs files and playlists from MMA to MMW (i.e. those that aren't synced from MMW to MMA) when syncing.
    • Confirm. If enabled, shows a confirmation dialog allowing you to choose which which files to Sync from MMA to MMW, when syncing.
  • Delete from this device. Allow you to choose whether to delete files from the device on Sync. This is useful for deleting 'old' content from the device and regularly refreshing it with new content.
    • None will delete no media files from the device on Sync, even if they're no longer selected to be Synced to MMA.
    • Unselected server files will remove any media files from the device that were previously Synced by MMW to MMA, but are no longer selected to be Synced. This excludes any files removed from MMW.
    • All unselected files will delete all media files not included on the Sync list.
    • Confirm will show a confirmation of which files to delete during Sync when enabled.

Global Settings

Settings > Library & Sync contains several Sync settings relevant to all Device Profiles:

  • Sync configuration wizard. Guides you through the initial Sync setup.
  • End sync on low battery. Allows you to set the battery treshold at which MMA will end wi-fi Sync (this has no affect on USB Sync)
  • Skip sync select storage selection. Skips the screen at the start of Sync to select which storage location you want to Sync.

Syncing

Once everything is setup in either MMA or MMW you can start wi-fi Sync in MMA (you can't wi-fi Sync from MMW). Select Sync in the main menu and follow any prompts along the way.
