Introduction
MediaMonkey for Android (MMA) can Synchronize media files and associated metadata (Album Art, play history, etc.) via wi-fi Sync with MediaMonkey for Windows (MMW). This requires both MediaMonkey for Android and MediaMonkey for Windows.
Before starting Sync it's recommended to read the full Sync documentation from MediaMonkey for Windows.
Initial Setup
To get MediaMonkey for Windows (MMW) to recognize and allow MediaMonkey for Android (MMA) to connect to the library, a 'Device Profile' must be created:
- Via USB, for this connect your device via USB to the PC running MMW. MMW will then create a device profile which will contain all the Sync settings.
- OR Via Wi-Fi, this sets up the Device Profile when first connecting via wi-fi to the MMW Server.
To be able to Sync you'll need to setup the connection in MMA in both cases.
Wi-fi Sync Setup
Wi-fi Sync requires MMW to be running and for the Media Server to be enabled on MMW (it's enabled by default).
To initiate your first Wi-Fi Sync with MMA:
- Tap Settings > Library & Sync in the menu in MMA.
- Tap Sync configuration wizard to start the setup.
- Select the UPnP Server from the MMW installation you want to Sync with (ie. MediaMonkey 5 (Server)).
MMW will show a prompt asking whether you want to give MMA permission to connect. In MMW, agree to give this permission. - Click Next
- Enable the storage locations that you want content Synced to. MMW will create a Device Profile per storage found on your device.
- Configure the 'Sync settings' for each storage location (see below) OR if you want to configure auto-conversion or other more advanced settings, continue the setup in MMW.
- Click 'Sync Now' to initiate the Wi-Fi Sync
If you didn't select any content to be Synced nothing will be Synced.
Sync Settings
Sync settings can be setup in either MMW or MMA after the Device Profile has been created on first connection. Either method modifies the same settings that are saved in the MMW database. Setting Sync up in MMW can be easier and exposes more settings than available in MMA.
Modifying Sync Settings in MMA
Under Settings > Library & Sync from the Menu in MMA you can:
- Use the Sync configuration wizard which guides you through the initial Sync setup.
- Set End sync on low battery, which allows you to set the battery treshold at which MMA will end wi-fi Sync (this has no affect on USB Sync)
- Skip sync select storage selection which skips the screen at the start of Sync to select which storage's you want to Sync to that Sync.
- Sync settings, which allows you to set the Sync settings per storage:
- Server content allows you to select what content will be Synced to the device when doing a Sync.
- File metadata will Sync metadata and play history from MMA to MMW when enabled.
- Device content will Sync files and playlists not Synced from MMW to MMA from MMA to MMW when enabled.
- Confirm will show a confirmation of which files to Sync from MMA to MMA, allowing you to choose which files are Synced, when enabled.
- Delete from this device sets which media files are deleted from the device on Sync:
- None will delete no media files from the device on Sync, even if they're no longer selected to be Synced to MMA.
- Unselected server files will remove any media files from the device that were previously Synced by MMW to MMA, but are no longer selected to be Synced. This excludes any files removed from MMW.
- All unselected files will delete all media files not included on the Sync list. This includes any files that have been removed from MMW.
- Confirm will show a confirmation of which files to delete during Sync when enabled.
Syncing
Once everything is setup in either MMA or MMW you can start wi-fi Sync in MMA (you can't wi-fi Sync from MMW). Select Sync in the main menu and follow any prompts along the way.
