Streaming your Library to Other Devices
MediaMonkey allows you to stream your library content to other UPnP / DLNA devices.
Streaming over UPnP / DLNA
- Go to Tools > Options > Library > Media Sharing (or right-click on Media Servers and click Share Media...) and check off 'Enable media sharing (UPnP/DLNA)'
- 'Add' a Share, and then choose which content you wish to make available to other UPnP / DLNA devices
- Configure Auto-conversion for content formats that aren't supported by the UPnP / DLNA devices. Note that for video, only conversion to WMV is presently supported in real-time.
- If you plan on creating more than one server (for instance if you wish to share Music with all DLNA devices, but Movies only with a subset of devices), choose a Server Name and IP Port.
- Define your security settings. By default, servers are shared with any DLNA device on your local network. You can:
- Allow devices external to the network to connect (this will require some fiddling with Port Forwarding on your router)
- Require that any new device that attempts to connect be explicitly given permission to access the server
- Click 'OK' in the Media Sharing dialog, and then 'OK' in the 'Options' dialog to accept the changes. You should be able to browse the shared content from your MediaMonkey library from other DLNA devices.
If you're having problems sharing your library, try setting the 'IP Port:' on the 'UPnP/DLNA Server' tab to '4000'.
Controlling MediaMonkey Remotely
DLNA also allows for MediaMonkey to be controlled via a 'DLNA Control Point'. To enable this functionality, enable 'Allow control of MediaMonkey player via UPnP/DLNA.
