Playing Files
Playing Files with MediaMonkey is straightforward. Files are added to the Playing queue and are then played. Basic Playback can be done in a single step, though finer control can be achieved by editing the Playing queue.
Basic Playback
- Select the File(s) you would like to play
- Use Play > Play Now in the Main Menu, or use right click Play Now from the Context Menu.
The Files you've selected will fill the Now Playing queue, replacing others that may have previously been there, and begin playing from the first Track. If you've selected only a single Track, additional Tracks may be added to the Now Playing queue, depending on how you've configured the player.
Tools > Options > Player has the setting to control Double Click on a file as the Default Action setting and also which files should be added when using double click on a file with the Default 'Play now' action.
The Play Counter
Whenever a files is played, the Play # is updated by 1. For files that can be bookmarked (e.g. AudioBooks), the Play # is updated fractionally. To define whether files can be bookmarked, see Filters & Views.
Changing the Order of Files in the Playing queue
For for full control over which Files are played when, you can modify the Playing queue. Think of the Playing queue as a list of Files to be played that you can modify, even as they are being played. You can:
- Add Files to the end of the 'Playing' queue: Select the File(s) you want to add and click Play Last from the Play menu. Note: If the Player is not yet playing a File, this command will modify the queue but will not initiate playback.
- Insert Files into the middle of the 'Playing' queue, immediately following the currently playing File: Select the File(s) you want to add and click Play Next from the Play menu. Note: If the Player is not yet playing a File, this command will modify the queue but will not initiate playback.
- Insert Files into any position of the 'Playing' queue: Select the File(s) you want to add, and drag them to the Playing, to the desired position in the list.
- Replace the current 'Playing' queue a new set of Files: Select the File(s) you want to play and click Play Now from the Play menu. Note: In addition to replacing the queue, this command initiates playback.
- Rearrange the order of Files in the 'Playing' queue: Go to the Playing, and drag and drop Files within the queue to re-arrange them.
- Rearrange the order of Files in the 'Playing' queue based on a sort: In the Playing, click a Column Header to sort the Now Playing Queue on that tag. To undo this, use the 3-dot (⋮) menu icon available only in the Now Playing window.
- Remove Files from the 'Playing' queue: Go to the Playing, select which Files you'd like to delete from the queue and press <Delete> . This will prompt if the files should be removed from the Playing, Playing and database, or Playing, database and drive. This prompt can be enabled/disabled under Tools > Options > Confirmations from the Main Menu.
