God I hate this attitude. How patronizing. Here I am, a veteran since MM 1, a software engineer, web designer, music producer etc. etc. and when I read this kind of tripe I lose it.

Where do you come up with "for 99% of them it works fine"? Did you run a poll? I doubt it. I think you pulled this # out of your (eh-hem) butt.

And when I read "There are always people like you" I want to throw something through the plate glass window. I've worked in customer support and tech sales and I find this comment to be very insulting when aimed at clients.

Look.... sometimes MM burning works and sometimes it does not.... all for reasons that are very unclear. I have given up on the MM burner and rather build a separate file list named and organized the way I like and then use something like CDBurnerXP to burn the disk. Never a problem burning both Audio and data disks for MP3 CD players.

I understand that you are a developer and that' great.... you have a superior product that I'm sure you've contributed to. Just remember that we are the one's who pay the bill (and I have paid for a lifetime license) and using patronizing language with your customers will do your business relationship with them absolutely no good. They'll probably get pissed and switch to WinAmp (God forbid).

My Two Cents.
Thanks
Mark
Did you read any of the rest of the thread? Because he did not give up on the user, and the issue was fixed! And I don't see how digging up this old thread is constructive in any way.

Hi,

I got the exact same "Layout" burning error with MM 3.2.4.1304 (Gold) when trying to burn a playlist. My disc format is <Auto Number> - <Title>, no other check boxes set.
I finally figured that the problem was caused by the following title:

Die Entführung Aus Dem Serail (The Abduction From the Seraglio), K. 384: "Welche wonne welche lust"

When I removed it from the playlist, I could burn.
Perhaps a more helpful error message or an automatic adaption of the erroneous part (title?) could be implemented?`
If you need a debug log, please let me know.

i've burned with mediamonkey before but did not get what i wanted in way of cd text it workd but not how i wanted it to.
there might be errors in the new mediamonkey but they been fixing the burning drivers every upgrade so it should be getting better?

but i still use free version of jet audio to burn disks with cause it burns the cd text the way i like it burned. 8)

Rather than jump through all those hoops, I simply dragged and dropped the MM playlist into Windows Media Player. Millions of people use that without problem, too. And my playlist burned without issue.

Hi Ludek,

Thanks for the quick response!

I have confirmed the problem by going through and fixing all the links to album art in the files and then the CD burns fine.

This problem has come about because (before I knew about MM!) I used Windows Media Player which creates files like 'AlbumArtSmall.jpg'. Clearly MM found these when I changed over to MM and then I deleted them from windows explorer because I didn't like small versions of the album art becoming the default (they are poor quality when displayed in MM). Hence the broken links...

Is there anyway to check for (and remove) any other such broken links?

Thanks again,

Nic

Nic, I now reproduced it myself using the steps I noticed, tracked as http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=6166 and will be fixed in the next build.

So I guess you experienced the same problem.

Nic, thank you for the log!

Studing the log I have seen one problem that it might be a reason for the failure. It looks that you ticked
[x] Burn Album Art into Track folders
checkbox that is unchecked by default, don't you?

And I have seen in our code that there isn't a check whether the image file really exists on your HDD.
So my speculation is that there is a deadlink to a JPG or PNG album art file and therefore the burning fails.
If it is true then I will open an issue and I am bout to fix it so that such a dead links would be automatically removed prior to burning.

Could you confirm my speculation by unchecking the checkbox and see whether the burn process without Album Art files passes?

Thank you.

By the way - I've also noticed that the files that I tried to burn to the data (MP3) CD have been duplicated, i.e. I have now got several copies of these music files on my disk now. Is this related or just a symptom of the CD burn crashing half way through?

Hello,

Apologies for the delay since my original post, I have been away for work a lot recently...

I have tried the latest Debug version (1287). I can burn Audio CDs from MM but not data CDs. The associated debug log and hpCDE.log can be found here:

Hope this helps!

Taknks, I will look into the log,
but if you cannot burn also by using the embedded windows' burner or any other burning app then I guess you will need to try to update your CD/DVD drive firmware or replace the drive.
