And I thought I've set 'manually manage music' too...

Now I've went through http://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/index.p ... _ipod_sync again, and it WORKED :-)

iTunes deletes existing music from the iPhone although I set 'don't sync music' where I expect that it would just leave it as it is, similar to contacts and photos.

Of course I manage the music with MM, and also use MM to export selections to iPhone.

You mean select the tab to sync music, then under that, select the "select playlist" option, then check the playlists you want to sync. "Manually sync" is confusing, as there's sync and there's manually manage music, which as I said before are mutually exclusive. Oh good. I'm glad you cleared that up for me.

How embarrassing

It was unchecked - my mistake, thank you.

One other question: is volume analysis disabled in iTunes? (this is done by deselecting 'Soundcheck' on the Edit > Preferences > Playback panel in iTunes).

If volume analysis is enabled, iTunes may make changes to the iPhone's music DB triggering problems.

Please let me know. Thanks.

I have a slightly different config, but my problem is also different. The phone initially appeared to sync correctly. It did not have the problem or iTunes deleting the sync'd music.

However on following attempts to sync with MM, changes to list of which playlists would sync did not propagate correctly. After several efforts, not only would MM not syncy, but iTunes wouldn't correctly sync (apps) at all. Error message "The iPhone 'xxx' can not be synced. The file format is not valid." Odd indication: database showed multiple copies of each song, resulting in more GB "consumed" than available on the phone.

Fixed by using MM to delete all music on the iphone, then re-syncing with MM and writing all music back to iphone. Seemed to clear things up for now, and I can sync to iTunes again.

config:
- Windows 7
- MM 3.2.2.1299
- iTunes 9.2.1.5

- iphone 3G (not 3GS)
- iphone OS 4.0.1

Thanks for the continuing work to overcome Apple's maddening change / habit!
David

Just tried putting a song on the phone with itunes first. Interestingly when you then uncheck Sync on the Music tab iTunes tells you it's going to delete all the music on your device: "Are you sure you do not want to sync music? All existing songs and playlists on the iPhone "xxx" will be removed"

I wonder if this is being triggered every time the latest iTunes syncs anything (i.e apps)

God i hate iTunes.

MediaMonkey version: 3.2.2.1299
iTunes: v9.2.1.5
iPhone 4 (32 Gig)

MediaMonkey device configuration is set as suggested here: http://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/index.p ... _ipod_sync
iTunes is setup as directed, but there are more tabs available on the phone:

Info: None of the Sync options are selected
Apps; Sync Apps is selected
Ringtones/Music/Films/Tv Programmes/Podcasts/iTunesU/Books/Pictures: Sync NOT selected

Steps to replicate problem:

1) Use auto sync in MM to sync about 150 songs onto the iPhone
2) Confirm on the phone that music is present and can be played (did not disconnect phone from computer)
3) Close MediaMonkey
4) Startup iTunes
5) Confirm in the capacity graph that music is present (1.75gig in my case)
6) Click Sync

at the end of the Sync process, iTunes has deleted all of the songs (they're genuinely not on the phone anymore, it's not a case of the database has been lost)

Just did it three times in a row with the same result. Any suggestions?
