Hi Peke! I did not install that, but it gave me an idea. I looked in the Device Manager, found the device under Portable Devices and chose to Update Driver, but instead of automatic I chose "Pick a driver", then chose one of the two same-named drivers available. Then suddenly the device changed to a proper "Portable media device" icon in Explorer, and MMW was able to find it... I have no idea why, as by what Windows was saying, I was already running the same driver, but there were two drivers with the same name "MTP USB Device".
Now it works. Damn, I should've thought of that at the start, but I usually never have device driver issues in Windows 10 these days.
I was afraid it would be another nail in the coffin of planned obsolescence ...
Thanks for the help and tips!

Try to reinstall Samsung Drivers from https://developer.samsung.com/galaxy/others/android-usb-driver-for-windows you should always select MTP as PTP is for pictures and is very old protocol used in first gen cameras.
