Auto-DJ setup

Post by kassoe »

Is there a way to have the Auto-DJ function to play anything except for specified genres (for example: play all available music except classical and opera)?

Sure, make an autoplaylist which includes everything but excludes those two genres. Then set that autoplaylist as the place for auto-DJ to get tracks from.

Yes, simply set up a an auto-playlist with those conditions and set up Auto-DJ to add tracks from that playlist.

Right click playlist node, New autoplaylist
Advanced tab, add search criteria
Genre doesn't equal [XXX] [YYY], (put checks next to genres to exclude)
Hit OK.

Hmm, seems the exclude doesn't work. I can see genre tags "opera" and "classical" on tracks being played, even though they are listed under advanced as excluded. do I need some kind of reindexing?

Did you change the auto-DJ option to use tracks from the playlist?

Thanks - probably hadn't re-chosen the playlist after having created it, works now. Thanks a lot - I'm getting to like this new jukebox of mine ...

I've got a similar issue with the Advanced tab on an Autoplaylist. I created one (or modified one that comes with MM), that includes all the music added within a few days, excludes podcasts, then sorts based on dated added, followed by (I hoped) album and track#. (Essentially, sort by date added, and keep albums together and in sequence.)

Image

As you can see, it's sorting on the first criteria, and ... then giving up. It's sorting albums as

It Might As Well Be Swing (added 14:56)
Kind of Blue
Frank Sinatra - The Capital Years
Lester Young with Oscar Peterson Trio (yes, these are the album names)
Tindersticks
Getz - Gilberto
A Love Supreme
Capitol Collectors Series (added 14:55)

So within the "added 14:56," it's sorting I - K - F - L - T - G - A - C.... And within albums, Track# isn't sorted.

Unless this is a bug, perhaps you can tell me WTH is wrong with my use of the Advanced tab.... ,:} As always. help and suggestions welcome and appreciated.

Nothing is wrong with it, its sorting exactly as you specified. The problem is that the "Added" column includes date and time down to the very second that the track was added (even if this doesn't show in the column). Since the tracks were not all added to the library at the exact same moment in time, it shows them as they truly were added to the library. There's a feature request in the bug tracker about this already: http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=5215

Yep, that's the problem, apparently. I'm not sure how the DateTime sorting interferes with the tracks when it's sorting by album just fine, but whatver. When I AutoOrganize these tracks to their (final) location in the Location, MM seems to move files in all kinds of sequence. (And the apparent multi-threading of multiple AutoOrganize actions doesn't help matters.)

I would vote for DateAdded and TimeAdded (if needed). Do you have a voting system or open commenting, as Zimbra does, or is Mantis just for internal users?

The bug tracking system is read only for normal users. Developers, support team members, and forum moderators have write access. I'm sure this will be addressed as of the next version of MM.

I had a go at this so I could play everything except the Christmas genre (I've got 3000 songs and shuffle keeps picking out the 20 or so Christmas ones :D ), but I've only got standard MediaMonkey (version 3.2.0.1294) so I can't access the Advanced tab on autoplaylists. Can it be done on the basic tab?

Thanks!
