Save custom sort order of search results

Post by JazzMC »

Hello,

I have spent 2 hours now browsing this forum to see if my question has been answered before, so my conscience is clear in respect to asking such a simple question.

MM version I use is 3.0.6

When I enter a search term in the search tab (the one with the magnifying glass next to it), MM always sorts the results by their path on the HD. If, though, I want the results sorted by artist, I have to click on the column header "Artist" every time I use a new search term, and if I want the results sorted first by artist and then by title (which is my preferred order), I have to click on the "Artist" column, hold down Ctrl, and the click the "Title column". (e.g. the MP3 F:\Music\Pop\Robbie Williams - Angels.mp3 will be listed before the MP3 F:\Music\Rock\Ash - Angel Interception by default, because the word "Pop" is lexicographically preceding the word "Rock", and I would like to have it reversed, since I want the artist "Ash" to be listed before the artist "Robbie William")

Question is:

How do I tell Media Monkey that, whenever I input a search term, or chose a folder in the node tree and have its contents displayed, or chose a playlist in the node tree, I want the results automatically sorted first by "Artist" and then by "Title"?

If I click on the magnifying glass, and get into the Search dialogue box (which also features the Advanced Search tab), there IS an option called "Sort Order", which is exactly what I need, but unfortunately, this option is not used if you just enter a term in the search tab on the main window. I know, I'm lazy, because my problem would be solved at least for the serach results by going that extra step, but it would still not give me the right sort order when selecting a tree node or a playlist.

I read these other forum topics, which were helpful, but all do not explain how to save the double sorting config to MM so it uses it automatically with every search I do:

http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... 8&p=180629
http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... 1&p=168223

If writing a customized script is the only way out, I'm prepared to do that, if you can tell me where to save such a script, or which one to alter, so MM reads it when it starts.

Thanks for any help,

Cheers,

Jan

I don't think that its possible to have your search results always sorted by the same criteria. Probably the easiest way would be to change the path that your tracks are stored at so that it would naturally sort by Artist then Title.

Thanks for the reply.

Thing is, with MM2 (which I've had for almost 2 years before getting a MM3 license), that exact same feature worked. Once I selected the sort order in the extended search dialogue, the quick search (using the search bar) also used that sort order.

Is there some way to specify sort orders in the MM .ini file?

Cheers,

Generally speaking, the sortorder is remembered per "NodeType" e.g. Genre, Album, Artist, etc.. I would expect that to work on the Search Node as well, I.e. applied sortorder is remebered to next time (unless a specified sortorder is applied in Adv Search). especially if that was the case in MM2.

Nope, in MM3, this does not work. For the "normal" nodes, yes (e.g. Location), but not for the search node; I tried that.

I would like to get rid of that node anyway.

I'm currently working myself through the .ini file to see if I can find some set of configs somewhere which might help me.

No, there's not anything in the INI which can be used to do this.

I added this to Mantis:
