Transfer library to second computer

Using MM V4.0.6.1501, and Windowsw 7. Have single library with 600+ tunes on PC-A. Copied mm.db to PC-B (used for backup PC on my gigs), ran the "Move Device Content" script, Located Missing/Moved Files then Updated them. However, 15 tunes are greyed-out (on PC-B). The paths on both PCs are identical. The filepath on the 15 greyed-out songs shows "{}\User\Tom..." whereas the good files show "C:\User\Tom..." Although I can manually correct the faulty path, it's just quite a pain. Any ideas on what's happening? Thank you for any help rendered.

Have you tried Locate Moved/Missing Files on the 15 files? Do the files still exist on your PC?

Yes, I have. All 15 show "[]" at the front of the path, as I said before, instead of "C:". Further, they resist updating or moving using the Locate facility.

If the files you have the brackets in front of are dupps of ones that work then just select them and delete them. HOWEVER if they are not dupps then you can view them all in list view area. Select the ones with the brackets and use tools menu auto organizer to replace brackets with the drive letter, it will not move files only replace the drive letter in its broken file list, then it should find the songs again.

The brackets show up on songs when the database has lost the hd's id number that the song was on when it was scanned,

I suggest running the maintain librairy option before you place any more songs on your back up that might fix the database on your pc a which then will fix it on your pc b, if it is broken on pc a in the first place ? Could be pc b where its broken.?

If MediaMonkey can't locate them you can scan the files on C and use Advanced Duplicate Find & Fix to copy file info/position on Playlist for those 15 tracks: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... +duplicate

Thanks for all the input. No suggestion solved my problem perfectly, so here is my step-by-step solution. (Using Windows 7 on on secondary computer and Vista on a 3rd computer -- Win7 on the primary PC. Also MediaMoney V4.0.6.1501 all all 3 PCs).

1. Copy the "perfected" or master database (MM.db) from the Primary PC, which has all the proper data Properties in the primary PC -- title, genre, BPM, etc., whatever you're saving. Paste it into the proper folder in the secondary PC. See many previous posts for where MM.db will be found.

2. Start MediaMonkey on the secondary PC.

3. Select Files/Located Moved-Missing Files.

4. Carefully select all folders containing your songs to search.

5. In the 3-tab dialog box that appears, select the tab marked "Files Located in New Locations." Most of your files will be there. Click Update. In my case, some of my tracks are still grayed out since MM has lost their location.

6. To solve this, in your Music listing headers, add the parameter "Path" to your listing by right-clicking the column titles and selecting the parameter "Path."

7. Sort the Path column so that the "C:" drive column and the "[]:" column are segregated. (In my case, 15 tracks are greyed out and have "[]:" at the beginning of the path instead of "C:" .

8. Highlight all the "[]:" tracks which are all sorted together.

9. Select Tools/Scripts/Move Device Content (which you MUST have -- search for Scripts on the web).

10. Click the radio buttons (VERY IMPORTANT), in the left pane (in my case=blank) and in the right pane (in my case=C:)

11. Click OK, and select YES in the dialog box asking "Are you really sure?"

12. As requested by the next dialog box, quit and restart MediaMonkey. Voila!! All tracks are intact, none greyed out, all tag info present.
