How to retain sort order in Music view?

Post by wader »

Hi Folks,
One annoyance from MediaMonkey Gold (latest update, but I've seen this at least since moving to v4) is that I sort my Music view by:

Artist (primary)
Album (secondary)
Track (tertiary)

This is obtained by either clicking the columns in reverse order (i.e., Track column first) or Clicking on Artist, holding the Ctrl key and clicking Album, etc. then refreshing that view.

However, during various conditions I will seem to lose the sort order completely. One example is doing a full-text Search in the same view, going to the Search results view and then clicking back to Music: at this point, there is a random ordering of the various tracks and I have to resort again to obtain my desired view setting. Sometimes this occurs when starting up MediaMonkey, but always after leaving the Music view and coming back to it again.

Is this a known bug or perhaps a user error on my part?

Thanks.

As far as i know you can only save your sort order when you are viewing from the playlist node or any other child node of the playlist node. You do so by right clicking the name of the node after you sort the listview area, then at top of the context menu the words of (up date play order ) show up and you click them, it is a per list item so you need to do it for every list. :D

Thanks, that is rather disappointing, since I expect each view (playlist or not) to save the most recent sorting order and not offer entirely random sortings, but maybe I need to do everything in playlists for now on. Seems a waste, since the Music view is already there for getting at my entire collection, though if there's no choice . . .

I can't reproduce. I clicked to the "Music" node, and changed the sort order to Genre, then Title. I then performed a search using the toolbar. After the tracklist fully populated, I clicked back to the 'Music' node and the previous sort order was still Genre, then Title.

Let me know if I missed some step.

Sounds similar to my steps which recreate this problem condition 100% of the time:

In Music view/node:

1. Sort on Track
2. Sort on Album
3. Sort on Artist

At this point, the View shows a by-artist sorted view, with each artist having sorted albums and tracks sorted within each album.

Then, in the Music node I type Ctrl-F and search Entire Library on Any Text Fields for a value then hit Enter.

Results show in the Search view.

After clicking back on the root of the Music node/view, it initially appears that the prior sorting order is retained until I scroll down further and find various artist/albums combinations have been mixed out of order starting at about the mid-point of the list or so.

What about View used and are you using Back button or do you just select the Music node in the Media Tree again. Lastly make sure you're at least on MediaMonkey 4.0.7 (even better test with the latest 4.1 beta from the Beta Forum).

I am using the latest Gold release, not beta. But, I've seen this behavior on prior releases.

All movements between the nodes/views are by directly clicking on those portions of the tree - I don't use the Back button.

For what it's worth I still cannot reproduce it in 1625.
