[BUG#10902] delete playlist deletes all tracks

Post by bkenobi69 »

I had 4 playlists that contained around 100 tracks. I did not need them as they were residual from some previous testing. When I deleted these 4 playlists, MMA displayed a confirmation that deleting playlists would only delete the playlist and not the track. I accepted and MMA deleted 1-3 quickly and hung for a long time on 4. Music that was playing stopped and eventually the OS displayed a application error dialog asking if I wanted to wait for the app or force close. I selected wait and MMA came back up. 1 of the playlists I selected to delete was not removed and most others were. Also, ALL tracks were deleted. I now have 5 playlists of the original 12-15 and 1 of these was supposed to have been deleted (as I mentioned).

I closed MMA and reopened hoping it just needed an update, but MMA finds no tracks. I checked the SD card and my Music directory is gone, so the tracks were actually deleted. I uploaded the log, but I don't know if it will show anything.

It did it again. Well, actually it's doing it right now as I type. I selected the one playlist that seemed to be empty and shouldn't have been there anyway and selected delete. Once again MMA indicated that it would delete the playlist only and not the tracks. Once again it has started deleting tracks. I see it's up through K and starting on L. I would kill the process, but I don't know if the error log would work the same. When it finishes deleting all my files again, I'll go ahead and upload a log.

At this point, I'm thinking my best bet is a full uninstall, delete all remaining files, and reinstall. I don't know what it thinks it's doing, but the ratings didn't sync this last time, it's keeping around old non-existant playlists, and deleting my library for no reason. WiFi sync doesn't work correctly, but that could be other issues I suppose.

Ok, so now I'm upset. MMA not only deleted the library, but it also deleted all files from my SD card INCLUDING MY PICTURES. Literally the only file left on the card is the MMA storage xml file. At this point, even though I tend to like MMA quite a bit, one more bug and I'll probably bail. Losing the library is disappointing, but deleting all other files on the card is completely unacceptable!

That sounds painful. I've done a lot of syncs, and I've never seen anything remotely like that. I think I've experienced just about every other bug reported in every other thread here. No offense, but I hope this one is just on your end. ;-)

Just deleted a playlist with MMA and watched it delete all playlists, tracks, videos and pictures as well as a couple of folders :(

Sounds horrible. Happen during a synch?

What was your setting in MMW at Tools|Options|PortableDeviceSynch on the Auto-Synch (->Device) tab for your device?

ie. Delete other files & playlist, it's dropdown control, and the Confirm Deletion setting?
Want a dark skin for MM5? This is the one that works best for me .. elegant, compact & clear.

not one of you said what device your using.??

samsung has an app launcher error on all years of their phones that will do this to all data on the device.
it makes you do a full reset up from factory settings. or it will just delete sdcard data, or some photos that are on it or the main storage area.
some times it removes contacts only, some times it is only contacts images, it can do these and i'm guessing anything else it wants to delete.

it is a known bug in samsung, but from what i can find online about it samsung doesn't seem to care to fix it?
some work arounds i have seen were to get an new app launcher and use it and remove the samsung one. there are some people that mentioned go launcher.

my sister is looking for new phone she's had it with samsung.

Motorola Droid4 running ICS 4.0.4.

Like I said, in my case, this was when i was inside MMA listening to music and decided to eliminate an unused playlist or two. MMA decided to delete all content on the external SD card rather than simply deleting the playlist file. This is not sync related.

I am not sure what you mean here ... I have 0nly had a Samsung GS3 since Oct12, but I have had NO problems which I can link back to the phone. Things work great. So when you say all samsung ... all years etc ... not really sure that is so

Yeah its true all Samsung all years from what I find when searching for Samsung app Launcher bug.
My sister's galaxy worked fine for 2 years, then it wiped everything, she replaced it all, 3 months later it wiped it all again, she put it back and it is now picking things at random and wiping them and or changing the data in them or even changing the ringers to what it wants to use. And not letting her change it back. And so far the app for blocking wifi is working and it is not connecting its self. so no hacker got in. And the search i did showed it was the app launcher error she had.

I didn't do anything different today, but when I went in to MMA and deleted all playlists it did operate correctly. I was nervous that it would repeat it's "trick" again, so I copied all my camera pictures to the internal SD card and watched the ES File Browser to see if things were changing. This time all it did was delete all my playlists as requested. I can't say this has been fixed, but I can say it did not happen this time without changing my procedure.

I also experienced this behavior last night with MMA 128 on my Atrix2 and the latest version of MMW on my windows xp machine. MMA was failing to sync so I went to delete the playlists, which has helped in the past. MMA took forever deleting the last playlist and then crashed my phone. When it rebooted, my SD card has been wiped. Currently I'm also having a problem with MMA constantly forgetting my tracks and then rescanning for them.
