Cannot play from USB connected HD [#11618]

Post by kentrune »

I'm using a MINIX NEO X7 Android mini PC. To it I have connected a external HD through one of it's USB ports.
MediaMonkey does not find/recognize the HD and cant therefore play from it.
The MINIX have Android 4.3 installed and I have the latest version of MediaMonkey installed. :D

Are you saying that it isn't shown using Folders in MMA?

Could you please start MediaMonkey and send logs (Options->Send logs) and post log ID here ? Could you also write me here all your subfolders of your /storage/ folder ? You can use some file browser. Thank you.

Hi Bhiefer.
Here is what you requested.
The Log id is 4137J900AR
Under the Storage folder in android:
Sdcard0

Under the folder /mnt in android:
asec
BlueRay
external_sd
obb
sdcard
secure
shell
usb_storage

If I click on the last one I access the USB connected HD and all its folder structure.

If I use the "Choose library folders" function from withing MediaMonkey, the folder structure/choices that I get are:
External SD Card 1
/mnt/sdcard

External SD Card 1
mnt/external_sd

So, MediaMonkey cannot find/detect the usb_storage folder for some reason (On the MINIX NEO X7 device. I cant tell how it is on any other device).

I have screen shots of these folder structures but cant add them to this answer (I don't know how), but they don't provide more information than what I have already provided.

i've run in to another problem with usb. it might be your answer? it is on the pc though and not the hand held device. i've had multiple usb devices plugged in to the pc. running all the time, after awhile i noticed the sound doing funny things like slowing down, this i know kids wont remember but it sounded like when you place your finger on the turntable as your playing records, then the sound would play normal. what i discovered was the usb external hd was trying to spin up and stay spinning but was not getting the power needed to do so. i had over plugged the pc with usb devices. just unpluging a few fixed the trouble. now you say your not even getting the usb hd to be seen. when mma is running? i'm thinking you have such a small power supply on the hand held that maybe the device can not power up all the stuff mma does and the external hd.? :-?

Hi Bhiefer.
Some people are mentioning "MMA" in this thread. Well I have not. I don't know what protocol/interface the HD is using. All I know is that Android recognizes it but MediaMonkey don't. It is a 2TByte Western Digital Elements HD.

Here is what you requested.
The Log id is 4137J900AR
Under the Storage folder in android:
Sdcard0

Under the folder /mnt in android:
asec
BlueRay
external_sd
obb

secure
shell

I have exactly the same problem...
I have a Measy U4C Android mini PC (Android 4.2.2). To it I have connected a external HD through one of it's USB ports.
MediaMonkey does not find/recognize the HD and cant therefore play from it.

Hi.
I have done it once if you look at my reply to Bhiefer the 24/12.
I'll do it again. The log id is: Z7W27W3QK9
I would imagine that this problem shouldn't be that difficult to recreate since it is persistent and other people also report that they have found the same problem.

Hi. Thank you for your logs. But I need more help. Because of some connection error, I didn't receive first log. In second log, MMA was unfortunately running for long time on your device without need of refresh of storage settings. It was very unlikely but it can happen :(. To be sure that I will see what I need, please send logs once again by following these steps:

1. unplug USB HDD
2. restart device
3. start MMA
4. plug in USB HDD
5. send logs in Options-> Send logs

Thank you!

Thank you. Your device has a specific behaviour for usb storages. I have probably fixed it in build 214 that is already in play store. Please try it and let me know. Thank you.
