i found this almost by mistake, almost because i had one of the bugs and needed to fix it. so i started looking around
at what might be the cause, this is what i found.
1. sound chirp's or sounds like it is cut off at high notes.
reason. CPU cycle's at 100%.
fix. lower CPU cycles by using the equalizer preamp and turning it down to minus 10 adjust the freq's that are getting
the most chirps to a lower level also.
2. 1 is also mixed in with other errors and issues below.
3. monkey seems to pause or half pause in the middle of the songs.
reason some thing is running in the background and trying to use ram that is filled and or CPU cycles that are full, so it pause's the sound for half a second or so. also buffering songs can cause this.
fix close background items, get more ram,
4. 1 and 3 are mixed in with other errors and issues below.
5. monkey seems to make the mouse pointer move slow like something is running in the background but you confirmed there is not any thing running that would take up ram or CPU cycles.
reason. size of screen makes CPU work harder and get hotter, more items open in monkey make CPU work even harder.
size of fonts on mediamonkey player that scroll, eat up CPU cycles and cause mediamonkey or the mouse to be sluggish.
fix. change to skin that allows you to use smaller screen size, get more ram, get more cooling fans turn off unneeded items in mediamonkey like the track browser if you are not using them at the time.
6. all of the above does not happen on this computer unless there is some program started by me that runs when monkey is playing. then the sluggishness shows up.
7. reason for all this is simple so simple it was being overlooked in the forum by people trying to help those with the chirps and slowness of the system when using mediamonkey.
it is just this. the above issues happen more often to those of us users that have a cheap CPU or a smaller single core CPU like a 1.25 GHz, with 1 GB of ram. that is what my jukebox has and all the stuff was going on with it. so i fixed it by doing those things and by speeding up mediamonkeys priority to real-time. and by speeding up the sound card driver's to above normal priority. now your sound card might not like that.. so it is a risk you have to figure out if you want to take,
so in summery the fix is simply
get more ram
get bigger CPU
speed up key programs or drivers that deal with sound. play it safe let programs get more speed then the drivers.
turn down preamp on mediamonkeys equalizer re adjust the eq's freq settings.
change skin to one that your smaller CPU can handle on the size of screen you want.
large scrolling fonts take up CPU cycles and cause trouble on small cpu's
and last unbelievable fix is this.
change from wav and direct sound output plugs that use buffers, back to the mediamonkey's direct sound output plugin.
i said it was unbelievable now didn't i. but the small cpu's can't handle the buffers and all the other stuff, changing back to the direct sound of mediamonkey allows for use of hardware acceleration and no buffers.
