If I just want to listen to a small file for a few seconds, I always have to start the whole mm. Why isn't it possible to start the player only as a small separated part of the software? It'd be much quicker.
For example: Klick on a file only starts the player. Klick on a button on the player then starts mm, if necessary.

Re: For a quick-listening...
even winamp starts up the library as does wmp. and jet audio. they all have options to turn off the library and use the small player. which is the same as mediamonkey does. its just that mediamonkey is more of a organizer program then a player so theres no option to remember the floatplayer was used when you closed mediamonkey.
and that you want it started when you start mediamonkey i think wmp does the same as monkey makes you start the big player.
winamp has the option to load just the player or they did have that option.?
but monkey doing the database orgainzing is needing to have the theme opened. its the way the skinning engine and program requires since it uses windows shell to make the player, i don't think you can make the main player seperate from the the theme. but they might be working on it. just not in the next version maybe for mm 5 or 6 they might be getting to that?

It's just like not to need a whole cow, if I only want to eat a little steak.
... sometimes...
All my mp3-files are automaticly connected to mm. I don't use winamp etc. What shall I do with 10 different players on my computer? I prefer one or two with all the needed features inside. So, to make everything faster, I'd be forced to connect mp3 to a simple and quick player, but if I want to work with my music, I can't open the mm with a klick on a file any longer.
It would be much easier to have the oportunity to open the mm-player only.

Re: For a quick-listening...
yep i know what you want but i was just saying what monkey is working like so you might understand better.
yep its nice to have one program but if you need to play real files you should have the free version of real one so if there is any file needed to play it you will have that file. same with quicktime it is required for some files. and wmp 11 is needed for wma files. there are some files that only show up in those programs and that is why they are needed. i have all those and winamp 5 and jet audio, and wmp 2. several dvd players that play audio also.
if monkey needs a file windows can find it in one of them programs i hope?
i don't use them all and you don't need to associate the files with all the players just the one you want to use.
i only got them for used by monkey. and wmp 11 since i like to hear songs and other things i come across on line.
they need to be used by wmp 11 for that. i tried to use the others for online stuff but they keep taking over the whole list of song files, ( the greedy programs anyway!) wmp allows monkey to have mp3 and m3u files associated with him as well as wmp.
if i have a file i want to hear just to test or check if the format can be played by wmp i just right click the file and open with windows mediaplayer 2 which should be in the same folder as wmp 11 and is the old win 98 wmp.

Re: For a quick-listening...
The way the programs are setup is that they need all the components to function. In this case you might want to look into a player only software if you require a quick playback solution.

Re: For a quick-listening...
are you saying that winamp got rid of the componet choice to start in only the player mode? like use to be done in winamp 2 classic player? i don't know if they did or not i only use winamp 5 in classic skin mode when i start it which is now about 5 months ago since i last used it.Lowlander wrote:The way the programs are setup is that they need all the components to function. I got the MediaPlayerClassic, the WMP 11 and MediaMonkey. That should be enough for normal use. With the MPClassic I only play video-files, also quicktime and real (alternative). The WMP I need for the wma (as you do) and sometimes for videos. I've also got the DiVX-Player, but I didn't use it yet.
MM is my main-program, talking about mp3 and all music except wma. And it will be the only solution - as you said: If I wanna listen to anything quick and short, I'd better use "play it with...".
