It would be nice if Mediamonkey had the features of GD3 Encode center and combined with dBpoweramp.
It seems the metadata and art feature is not very strong. Along with C2 error corrections and Accurip.

Also it would be nice to be able to change the skin size along with the tool buttion sizes.

No Support Media Monkey

Mediamonkey support is seriously lacking. For those are trying this program don't waste your money. You will get much better support from GD3 which has Encode center, and Dbpoweramp, which has accurrip and a bunch of other secure ripping tools.

Dbpoweramp responded to all my questions either within the same day or the next. There threads are easier to follow, because everything is marked in a color scheme to see what has been answered and what has not.

Also Mediamonkey does not support the GD3 metadata and art from their website. GD3 is one of the most accurate metaart lookup sites for Metaart and Data. Sure you will pay a little bit for this but for those who demand accurate data GD3 is the way to go.

GD3 provided support on a sunday through direct email and solved all my issues, MediaMonkey still has not answered my tickets that I submitted on Friday night. This company does not support their customers or their product, that is the way I see it. Not one of my tickets have been answered.
Their secure rip portion and standard ripping has alot to be desired.

Dbpoweramp is a very much a universal program, and Mr. Spoon, has done a great job to support this product. Unlike the folkes as at MediaMonkey, they have not even responded to my post.

Media Monkey Issue and there are alot

Post by audioguru »

Media Monkey does not support GD3 Metadata or art. Nor is the tagging format universal. Unlike Dbpoweramp or GD3 Encoder, thier metadata and art is one the best.

Also using a Windows 7 64 bit system I7 chip 6 gig of memory and a Plextor LB950SA interal SATA blue ray drive and a perfect cd. The Monkey Audio ripped one song on the cd with a skip, and I tried it again and again, yet there is not one scratch on the CD.

Now I used Windows Media player ripped the one song from the CD no errors or skips. Dbpoweramp and GD3 handle this one song with no problems, MediaMonkey Ripper is very weak for this to happen. I had to go into MEdiamonkey and check on jitter control and secure rip then it worked fine.

Even my Nero CD ripper was able to rip the one song with no problems. MediaMonkey needs some work.

I have used MM for years, both free & registered, and I hate to say it but I tend to agree.
It seems that every time there is an upgrade that fixes one thing, it breaks something else. Most recently, I found that I couldn't burn CD's or use MM to sync my iphone (after upgrading iTunes). So, I downgraded Itunes & used another program to burn CD's. Now I saw that the problem with itunes was fixed, so I upgrade & find that CD burning now works, but I can no longer access my home network drives thru MM.
I'm most likely going to give up & move on to another program. Hopefully, some day they'll get their house in order & maybe I'll use it again...

first poster.

i don't remember seeing the posts you talk about. i just got in after a few days out of the forum. sorry for not being healthy enough to sit here 24 hours a day anymore and trying to help figure out errors for people.

but did you give all the info like i ask for in every one of my posts?

we in the forum can only help by what we have had happen to us, unless we are programmers then there is a little more
we can help on.
but its a free forum the developers are working on fixing things for windows 7 users but will try and fix things for other os users if they can. i'm sure giving us power users in the forum a chance might help. and using the list of helpful links i made might give you an idea of what is needing fixed.?

but to blast away at a program just because one of the developers in one of the countrys was asleep and didn't see your posts. or was working on another code issue and didn't see them, is not really fair.
you post seems like an advertisment for another player to me. so let us know what was your issue. 8)

Dead right.. Yesterday I blew £50 on MM It won't run on my W7 PC. Crappy splash screen but that's all. I raised a ticket NO REPLY!!!! I wonder what the chances are of a refund? Technically you have breached UK Distance Selling Laws, taking my money but NOT SUPPLYING GOODS FIT FOR THE PURPOSE. I'd prefer a fix, in which case you can keep the money. But the deafening silence from you is worrying. If I were you, I'd escalate my concern immediately.

So you didn't think to try the FREE version before purchasing to see if there were any issues :-?
And if you paid £50 then you were robbed as its £42.19 for a Lifetime License and £21.07 for a Gold.

I confirm heavy issues with CD ripping, too. MM4 failed to rip a perfect looking CD using the secure method in my case. It started very slow and after some minutes no more progress. After the second track ripped to temp folder, MM4's ripping module seems to run into a dead loop.

With default method I have some cracking sounds within the songs. I tried with encoding the ripped files to FLAC.

@AudioGuru
Re GD3: Their own software cost $19 http://www.getdigitaldata.com/Purchasing.aspx and you pay $0.10 for each additional CD (they didn't told how much is included) I personally have around 600 CDs which come to $60 which is three full MM 4.0 GOLD licenses. There are users with 2k+ of CDs. I'm not sure what are you suggesting on which part MM should pay for users.

@A User
On standard you get cracking sound as MM skips faulty sectors on CD and on secure RIP MM tries to Read that sector 16 Times and than reconstruct data from sector which can lead in is so called loop.

@jembarnes
Can you post Ticket ID you are referring to? Also there is always Knowledge Base to check before purchase. Regarding refund there is always basic rule for that and we have always made exceptions for users in special cases where we can make them.

Hi Audioguru,

Re. metadata / art features: MediaMonkey provides basic features plus a framework that allows script authors to build a variety of addons to further extend metadata lookup functions. Check out the addons site/forum.

Re. GD3, we've thought about working with them, but haven't to-date due to cost considerations. Perhaps we could sell that as an addon on a subscription model, but I expect that most users wouldn't go for that.

Re. Ripping quality: glad to see that you resolved the situation by enabling jitter control. We'll consider changing the defaults.

Re. skin size: skinners can change a variety of attributes to change the look and feel of the product (though button size isn't one of them).

Re. delays to a support request: the combination of the release of MediaMonkey 4 with the reduced staffing over holiday season has resulted in slower than normal response time. We're close to being caught up.

tlock65,
Re. failed CD burning with a particular version of MediaMonkey: we continually improve the CD burning engine, but there are hundreds of models of CD drives, so in some cases, it may not work. Anyhow, glad to hear that the CD problems are resolved in the newest version.

Re. iPod sync issues: this should work fine on all but iOS5 devices. Let me know if you're having a problem.

Re. home networking problems: that should be easily resolved using the 'Locate Moved / Missing files' function (if the problem is that contents of a mapped drive aren't being found, just scan for //networkpath using the 'Located Moved..' tool).

Jembarnes,
You raised an issue re. MM crashing after iTunes was installed on Jan 8, and our support team responded on Jan 9th with a solution. Did you receive the response?

-Rusty

p.s. this thread is getting a little unwieldy, so I'd suggest that if you have specific questions about a specific issue, that you raise it in it's own thread.
