Not saving tags to file [#10191], [#10278]
It does not appear that when I change the tag of a file (Ratings, composer etc) that the FILE on my mediamonkey server gets changed. I have tested quite a few files and none show the changes in the files, they DO show in MediaMonkey DB though. This is a problem for me as I require my files to retain the info.
Re: Not saving tags to file
To fix you can use the Files to Edit > Unsychronized Tags node, select all files and use Tools > Advanced Tag Management > Synchronize Tags.

Re: Not saving tags to file
Unfortunatly this takes a LOT of time and seems very inaccurate on my system (could be because I have a HUGE collection). Can I make this a feature request then to make the tags on the files AND db update on sync
Re: Not saving tags to file
It was only suggested as workaround. How does it work inaccurate, I have a large Library and it works okay for me, furthermore it works within the Collection thus can be sped up. Note it's best to report any issues with Unsynchronized Tags in the Beta forum for MediaMonkey for Windows or better send debug logs to support for problems you encounter.
I've not gotten as far as you in testing tags sync. I sync a couple files (manual USB sync) and they failed to show Rating in MMA, I then rated 1 file and synced (auto USB sync) and the rating wasn't synced back, but the Track# was changed when viewing device in MM (1009 instead of original 9, does show correct rating), the source file in Library remained unchanged (no Rating nor Track# change).

I'm sort of having the reverse issue - I can post elsewhere if more appropriate - my tracks don't seem to have any of the ratings etc from the MMW library. They come over from the playlists that have sorted them by rating (i.e. 4+ stars) but when I hit the album cover they always show 0 stars.

Re: Not saving tags to file [#10191]
I believe that is because ratings use play count in database and mma is new database for the song thus having a zero play count.moonglow wrote:I'm sort of having the reverse issue - I can post elsewhere if more appropriate - my tracks don't seem to have any of the ratings etc from the MMW library. Ratings set on Android do not sync to the MP3 FILE
I have done many tests and it appears that when I change a rating or even change an mp3 tag on the beta Android app (even on the latest 1.0.1.0087) it does sync to the MediaMonkey Server (4.1.0.1416) however it does NOT modify the actual MP3 file as verified by MP3Tag. Is this a bug, or is it a config setting I can change, or is this something that is considered a feature request?
Re: Ratings set on Android do not sync to the MP3 FILE
Lowlander - first, thank you for your assistance to this forum as your insight and assistance is appreciated.
yes I did report this (on the android app forum) and I patiently waited for an update and the update did not fix the problem. You gave the same advice last time and your advice is a WORKAROUND and NOT a FIX. I need a FIX. This is a manual step that should be unnecessary and should be fixed in the synchronize process to update the tags during sync. I appreciate your help and your workaround may help some people but unfortunately it does not work in my case.
Also, as I mentioned before I have found the "Unsyncronized Tags" not accurate on my system. I end up receiving a lot of files that the tags are synced. I have ran this process but somehow I still end up with tracks in here that I have not listen to not accessed. So for me this does not work.
Again, I need to know if this is a BUG, if this is a FEATURE REQUEST, or if this is just something where I need to change a SETTING.

Re: Not saving tags to file
Why a new setting? I think it would be easier to use the existing setting "Update tags when editing properties".rusty in mantis wrote:If metadata changes on a remote MMA device trigger an update to the metadata in MMW, the db is updated but the tags are not--in spite of the configuration of 'Update tags when editing properties'.
I would suggest that we may want to add a new setting:
'[ ] Update tags when syncing metadata updates' (disabled by default)
I don't think that anybody would like to not update the tags when syncing but to update when editing in MM.
So it would be quite confusing if e.g. the existing setting was enabled and the new setting disabled.

The more is not always the better. You don't want MM to be illogical, confusing bloatware, do you?
Where can you see the need for two options exactly, I mean what would be a realistic use case?

I agree here, that the option doesn't seem to be needed, it should be automatic.
