1349 navigation tool bar error [#7204]

Post by rovingcowboy »

navigation tool bar is being space hog,
it shows only the speaker icon and the spin button,
but requires the whole space of the top of the screen one row from left to right to be shown and
wont let you put any other tool bar near the right side of the navigation tool bar.

thanks for letting me know, at least it is not just me getting this error. :)

oh i see you got it started back in 1344. i did not see it then i was messing with other item errors.

but in your report i see it did not let you place the navigation bar anyplace else only on the left.

i've got it moveable to other locations now but the other tool bars are not being allowed placement to the right
of the navigation bar. only the far right and only if it is a small tool bar being put there.

i can move the navigation bar to the right of another tool bar but then it moves anything else on that row either up or down and claims the entire right side for its own use.

Well, it's not really an error. It was designed that way (thats how it worked in mm3).

I don't think that this is a bug--the navigation toolbar continually expands/contracts depending on what content is selected, and if icons were allowed to the right, they would continually move around. Anchoring icons on the right side is the only way to prevent this.

The real fix would be to change the implementation of the navigation toolbar so that it's more akin to Win7 (i.e. contained within a text box). But we're not going to make that change for 4.0, so the current restriction on icon placement seems to make sense (to me at least ;-) )

I disagree, first of all you can already fill up the toolbar so that the Navigation has no room to expand (you just have to add toolbars from the right). Doing this than causes problems (which I reported already: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... navigation) that elements get hidden without the ability to access them.

What should happen in my opinion:
- Navigation toolbar should be treated like any other toolbar and it should be up to the user to decide how much space to the right of the toolbar is available for expansion (I personally would like a limited space and then expand options to access all elements)
- Navigation toolbar should always show left most (first) elements and hide right elements if toolbar has insufficient space
- When navigation toolbar has insufficient space it should have the expand button to show any hidden elements just like any other toolbar
- You should be able to locate the Navigation toolbar anyway: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... =6&t=56682

I think this isn't a technical issue, so it should be up to the user how they want to use the Navigation toolbar.

Furthermore the current implementation forces the user to add toolbars in the correct order to the right of the Navigation toolbar or after adding toolbars readjust them as some have auto-collapsed.
