MM locks up system when cd inserted

Hey Everyone, Been a while since the last issues you fixed in the code for me. Still love MM, but it locks up my new system when I insert a CD.

It is a new system I just got
Lenovo t500 centrino 2 downgraded to XP All updates SP3 installed plus all the manufacturers updates
not much software on it yet.
Lifetime license installed on MM.

It does not matter if I insert the CD then fire up MM or have MM running and insert the CD. It freezes eitherway. If I leave it alone for about 5 minutes + it seems to resume and take the CD/DVD off the hardware list.

I thought it might be some new DRM in the hardware or something. But I played the CD without issue with VLC without any codecs or anything.
I thought it might be something to do with CD lookup on the web. But I pulled the network cable tried it again without change.

I tried submitting a debug log wen and have not heard back. the system does not crash, or run out of memory. it just locks up for about 5 minutes until it disables the cd drive.
My system does have 3GB ram.

My registry value was set as the microsoft fix suggested before I looked at it to 512. So I did not change anything.

no matter how long mine sat when it did this lock up on this dell it never fixed its self. so that is showing me it has to be some combonation of factors in your system that is only on it.?

it sounds strange like its trying to use the ram on the cdrom drive for the swap file.?

i have not hat that happen since the old win 3.1 computer where the cdrom drive had more ram then the computer unit did.

i wonder if it is the same error in windows but the reverse. where it has so much ram it does not know where to stop grabbing the swap file ram from.? if so then that would be a windows bug.

Couple of more things.

I tried inserting some data cds, money plus premium, and hpofficejet 4300 series disk. It has the same effect as a music CD.

I also tried installing itunes to see if it is a major problem with my system (it still may be). Itunes installed did not have any problems with a CD being installed and ripped.

theres always the chance mediamonkey does not know your brand of cdrom player, but i can't see why that would stop it?
are you using a cdrom cdrw drive, or a cdrw dvd drive.?


my lenovo is using the cd dvd combo drive.

but did you go to lenovos site and get updates for their system. or did you just completely remove their system and put your own on the hard drive.
i got an xp home computer by them an just updated it to pro so some of their stuff is still on the system stuck in a back up restore file. just incase i need some sort of hardware driver for their stuff.

if you removed all their stuff you might try going to lenovo's site and checking for drivers for that disk drive, and see if they have an update for it.

It is the stock dvd/cd-rw that came with it.

All updates as of last week from microsoft and lenovo were applied.

then the idea it is something dealing with the dvd that is messing with monkey might be the reason.

In the device manager it does not have the typical dma/pio mode under ide ata/atapi controllers. this might be mounted as sata?

maybe a tweak for the .ini will fix it?

I got it to work! Not on the current version, I removed the new 3.X version off my system, and installed 2.2.2998.

Unregistered 2.X seems happy with the drive, and system. Even does CD lookup.

So how do I get 3.X to work?

With no other suggested fix, I upgraded to vista and everything works now.

I am back!

It did not really work with the upgrade to Vista.

But I did end up reinstalling XP and figured a fix.

There is a setting in the BIOS config for sata. It comes with it set to ACHI mode. I switched it to Compatibility mode.

Do you guys know why this would effect mediamonkey? Does mediamonkey directly talk to the hardware? Is there a fix that would let me run it in ACHI mode?

i think mediamonkey does work with the cdrom directly. but i can't say for sure maybe one of the scripters can?
