Sorting numbers in strings more intelligently

Post by AlexJ »

When a track title (for example) is sorted alphabetically, and there are numbers involved, the sorting is such that for example 16 comes before 2 (i.e. the first character is being sorted rather than considering the number as a whole). Is there any way this can be changed so that numbers are considered as a whole entity, no matter how many digits they contain and are sorted accordingly?

As an example:

Advanced Duplicate Find & Fix Find More From Same - Custom Search. | Transfer PlayStat & Copy-Paste Tags/AlbumArt between any tracks.
Tagging Inconsistencies Do you think you have your tags in order? Think again...
Play History & Stats Node Like having your Last-FM account stored locally, but more advanced.
Case & Leading Zero Fixer Works on filenames too!

Just wanted to bump this up the list for MM4 / 4.01. Explorer and RockBox manage to recognise whole numbers so it would be great if MM could too. For example, in MM albums are currently sorted as 1; 1,039 (this would be slightly tricky because of the ","); 100; 100th; 13; 1954;...; 20; 2001; 3; etc. Oh and by the way, if you're implementing this I think it would be good to ignore a leading apostrophe (') so that '66 breakout! would sort in between 60's and 70's.

This seems doable to me and it would be a great feature. Please :D

I know this has been entered in Mantis, but I would like someone who understands how Mantis and the devs work to assure me this will be considered for future versions, given it says version 3.2, or change the mantis entry so it is. Thanks

I can haz bump?

Ok, but seriously, it's been over one major release and over a year since this was filed in Mantis. Can we get some sort of status on this? I'll take anything! Even "declined" (unhappily, but I'll take it). Just asking for some closure, y'know? :D

I'm sorry, that's over two and a half years since it was filed.
