MM4 upgrade bugs

Post by GSV3MiaC »

Been forced to MM4 by the broken Amazon linking from MM3.

So far .. portable device specs have not been imported right (I had several copies of USBMass, associated with various portable devices - none of the data seems to have made it to MM4, so I have to retype all .. and there were a LOT of custom file naming specs).

Also the 'masks' for rip to, auto-organize, etc all seem to have vanished (again, some were very complicated).

Did MM4 just fail to find/read/convert my MM3 .ini file for some reason? My playlists etc all made it, but a lot of the other stuff did not.

We have done extensive tests. Sue teh changes some things were left and not transferred. You can always manually load INI files ( http://www.mediamonkey.com/support/inde ... ticleid=17 ) in text Editor (I suggest Notepad++) and copy sections you need.

I did a full install over MM3.

I am not sure what 'Sue teh changes' means .. yes, I can copy stuff in manually to the new .ini files I guess. Bit of a fag, given the number of different places mask formats are stored. However, as mentioned elsewhere, the 'different masks for portable device files from different source playlists appears not to work, even if I try setting it directly in MM4 (haven't tried putting it straight into the MM4 .ini file though, if I can even guess where).

Just to note that, apart from losing the custom drop-down list of formats and destinations in use for 'rip to' and 'auto organize' etc, MM4 upgrade also seems to have lost the custom field names I had altered (from 'Custom4' 'favourite status' or whatever). Not a big problem, compared to retyping 50 or 100 custom masks, but still an avoidable niggle.

I have the exact same problem. Upgraded for the same reason. All my nice masks are gone. 90% of my settings are gone.. scan folders gone. Last.fm info gone. Displayed columns gone. layout gone. active tool bars gone. remembered my life time registration (5 years..) but that's about it. Is MM supposed to transfer this information??

It would be nice if the upgrade notes actually mentioned any of this. http://www.mediamonkey.com/support/inde ... gconfirm=1 They don't. what a terrible user experience.

I have to add my voice to those complaining about this. Upgrading previous versions of MM3 to new versions of MM3, I never lost any of my custom, complicated mask settings. I upgraded to 4 to enjoy the new features, only to find that MediaMonkey is now broken in annoying and unnecessary ways. I will look and see if the ini file editing suggestions helps. But at present I can not auto-organize any new files I rip into my otherwise neat and tidy library...

Update: After reading http://www.mediamonkey.com/support/inde ... ticleid=17 carefully, I learned that due to the changed location in Vista from MM3 to MM4 that MediaMonkey.ini is stored, I had not lost my old ini settings. I was able to open both the old and new ini files, and copy the masking data from one to the other. It does seem to work. I think it is a bug that this does not happen automatically in the upgrade process.

I'm in the same boat so I would like to voice my frustration also. As the update description said it would fix about 40 minor issues I was given no expectation I would lose all my layout configurations and preference settings, including the skin which was in use. I did back up the database before updating but no other files, so have I completely lost my honed and personalised layouts?

Read my post right above yours. And follow the link. You should be able to manually put your settings back into your ini file.

Masks are back; didn't transfer toolbars or column selections... or MM Gold Registration.

Upgrade notes should indicate the change of database location because mine was not being properly backed up due to the unannounced change.
