Active X permissions maybe

Post by MoDementia »

I will use the script Browse by Art as an example but this applies to most scripts that display web content in the main tracks window/panel.

System:
Windows XP Home SP2 with all updates from windowsupdate.
Possible apps causing the problem:
Norton System Works/AntiVirus 2005
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6

Things I have tried:

' ActiveX warnings: In Internet Options, Local Intranet zone, enable "Initialise and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe".
' If you are still getting the warning messages - try this:
' 1) Run regedit.exe
' 2) Goto HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\0
' 3) Modify key 1201 = 0
' This enables the above option in your My Computer zone.

Disabling AntiVirus

Passing objects between the web page and the media monkey script gets interupted/blocked by something somewhere I think

These errors continue to make scripts like these unusable :(

I hope someone can help or point me in the right direction

as i said in another post and some one else thought i was a little wrong about it.

ms released a security patch for IE. early last spring. it closed some port that was used by activex downloads. now there are lots of troubles trying to get any activex download to work, even activex downloads of templetes for msworks from ms's own servers.

i am heavy in to use of MS Agents. they are able to download by ActiveX setup also. and they are all messed up by the same IE patch.

i have seen this activex error since that patch was released.

it is posted on lockergnomes site multiple times also.

maybe one of the gurus on lockergnome can tell you how to fix it.
but i have done as told and still get the alert which stops the download.

activex downloads mostly don't have the pause or stop and start feature (for msagents they don't ) and when the alert stops the download.
you need to refresh the page to get the download to start again,
but that also gets rid of your mark of clicking the okay button.
which causes the alert to pop up and stop the download again.
its a catch 22 and 44.
:-?

now after all that, your saying but i am trying to run a script.

correct you are.

but your doing it in a program that uses the windows shell. which shares its options an settings with the IE settings.

thus the activex patch is causing both errors the download and the running of the scripts i believe if you get the ie download working you will get the script working.

but i can't get the download working.

there is always the possiblity of a scripting error made by the scripter but i don't blame anything on the monkey or the scripters anymore not since learning the emass error's are caused by the os.

so i blame the os now. 8)
