MM bought by hmmm... Creative
I have been using MM for about a two years, when I first bought the program I thought this is really powerful but the interface needs to be cleaned up, and simplified. I have been using the latest version of MM3 since its come out, and I smile with every new release as it gets better and better. Its still has a ways to go still it gets that nice balance of ease of use, and power features that all the other plays are missing. My whole reasoning is that I predict by version 5 a big company like Creative will come along and buy MM for use with their MP3 plays or online store, and ruin it. Similar to what happened with MusicMatch. I'd like to hear other predictions.
P.S. I bought the latest version of MusicMatch a couple months ago, I really don't know what compelled me to do it. But I ended it uninstalling it the next day. I used to really love that program too.

change the subject title it is sounding like you are saying they were already bought.
as far as i know media monkey is already owned by a huge company. so i don't think they will be bought out and destroyed like musicmatch was.

yep there are several developers. but i am thinking it is a pet project of the main company. i might be wrong and the company might only be made up of those developers but i don't think so.

You mean to say the owners do not come out and show themselves. With such a great product you would think they would be basking in the gloryrovingcowboy wrote:yep there are several developers. but i am thinking it is a pet project of the main company. i might be wrong and the company might only be made up of those developers but i don't think so.

There's no big company behind MediaMonkey.
Ventis Media (the small "company" behind MediaMonkey) is the company of Jiri and Rusty (correct me if I'm wrong), with Jiri being the MediaMonkey founder and main developer. I think this "company" exists mainly because of legal requirements, i.e. to enable taxes and payments.
MediaMonkey is still in cosy hands, developed by the people mentioned in the wiki.

Why not do a co-op thing? Instead of buying a license, you buy a stake in Ventis Media. Giving you user rights to the sw?
Pretty Che Guevara/Castro (not my cup of tea) but we are sort of "opposing" the whole Warner/Virgin/Emi/iTunes/DRMinfestation thing anyways. Why not screw them properly?
The first (near) perfect mediaplayer owner by it's own users......THAT would get the front page of WIRED MAG.....haha

We don't need a big company to buy MediaMonkey. Look what happen to Winamp when AOL brought them.
The best player at the time turn to cr_p and all the people that made Winamp the best quit or was fired.
I have used WMP, Winamp, Itunes and MediaMonkey and the best player is MediaMonkey hand down.
Most players are sluggish when scrolling or searching a large library. I am not a programmer so not sure how MediaMonkey solve that issue because it's the only player I uses that has no issues scrolling no matter how many files you have.
When it come to sluggish Itunes is the worst.

AOL|TimeWarner ring a bell? AOL bought into TimeWarner.
Randall is right: most companies when bought do not shine as bright as they did in the past. What happened to Musicmatch was deporable - from top to the bottom. And really, it had such a big potential. No iTunes, no MediaMonkey was popular at that time. If you want to have a party, you either had your Windows Explorer or you had MusicMatch. And by the way the things are, people are still using Windows Explorer.
I might do a rant by just mentioning the leatest great product from Creative that had great drivers: AWE32. But I better not let me set free.
If there is a way that MediaMonkey can benefit from other companies, is to bundle MediaMonkey with portable devices. I know that the three ones with big wallets have their own solutions (bloated as they might be, and maybe not as useful as you know what), but there are lots of companies that might benefit from MediaMonkey a lot. I point at companies like Archos, Iriver, etc. They make great devices, but not so great software. Can you compare Iriver music manager with MediaMonkey? Hell no! So, come on, MediaMonkey should try to get good in good terms with those companies.
Imagine you get a new portable device that gives you a lifetime registration for MediaMonkey, and that MediaMonkey supports every feature of the device (like configuring FM stations or uploading firmware updates).
No wonder Nero became number #1 when it began to be bundled with every CD recorder. In that case, the drive manufacturers did not reinvent the wheel everytime!

Quick note: do you know that any of the performance problems of iTunes can be seen on a Mac? Just imagine why.Randall_Lind wrote:We don't need a big company to buy MediaMonkey. Look what happen to Winamp when AOL brought them.
