MM3 & Playcounts/Last Played

Post by nynaevelan »

Hi:

I have FINALLY gotten 2.5.5.998 set up as perfectly as I could imagine, thanks to the availability of some great scripts. With that in mind, I would like to "play" with MM3 to see if it will meet my needs or if I will avoid the conversion and stick with 2.5.5.998. Anyway, one of the things that is not available in MM3 is the retention of playcounts and the play history. I understand the reason why but I was curious, has any of you testers found a way around this to import the playcount/last played from MM2?? I was thinking of Steegy's Extract Fields but it does not have the Played/Last Played as one of the fields to extract field. Or Steegy's SwitchorCopy script but it did not work for the same reason. Has anyone overcome this roadblock, or am I the only one who wants to import the playcounts? I would like these values available because alot of my usage of MM2 is based on the playcounts. In order for me to test MM3 to my satisfaction, I would like to test based on the playcounts also. I'm aware that many of the MM2 scripts do not work in MM3 (I've already tested the ones that I use) but I do still have some available that are based on the playcounts.

BTW, based on my initial impression of MM3, it is going to be a hard decision to give up one or the other. MM3 looks like it is going to have some impressive features, and it is only in the alpha stage!!!

Once the MM 3 database stabilizes, they will provide an import function to import existing mm 2 playcounts etc.

Until then, we all will just have to be a little more patient.. :)

Hi All:

I realized I could not live without my playcounts after all. So I cheated, I copied the playcount numbers into the custom3 field in MM2, imported the files into MM3 and used the Playcounter script to copy the counts into the played field. Now I can better test MM3 to ensure it will meet my needs.

A side note, I am not using my "live" music library for my testing of MM3. I created a second directory with only a select number of tracks. I am not comfortable using MM3 on my "live" database. This way if I screw something up, I have not lost my database. Is there anyone who is using their "live" database with MM3?? Have you encountered any adverse effects?

Wondering whether or not import is suppose to be working yet or if it just did not work for me.

Did not import play counts or last played when I installed MediaMonkey v3.0.1.1105 RC-3 or MediaMonkey v3.0.1.1109 RC-3.

Is it just me or is it not implemented yet?

BTW: LOVING MM3!!!

Import from MM2 has been around for awhile now. It should ask you if you want to import your MM2 database when you install.

Okay I am an idiot! First mistake I made was that it was not a clean install. DB and INI from a brief try of Beta over the summer was still present.
Then when I re-installed I rescanned my library and deleted DB upgrade.
All is fine now. :D

I changed over to MM3 from iTunes and been using it for 2 months or so almost everyday and I still have my music and ratings. lol I have about 3000 songs and currently I'm trying to organize my music. I don't know what I would do if I would lose my ratings. :( Thats why you gotta keep a backup!
