Now open up your registry (start -> run -> regedit)

Then open the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
goto system -> CurrentControlSet -> Enum -> USB

Now this is where you need to go back to the Device Instance ID
look at the id and open the folder in the registry according to the id.

Then open the folder inside it

Now click on Device Parameters but don't open it you should see a list of strings and binaries

Double click on:
EnableDefaultAutoPlaySupport - and change Value Data to 1
PortableDeviceNameSpaceExcludeAutoPlayTab - change to 0
PortableDeviceNameSpaceExcludeFromShell - change to 0
ShowInShell - change to 1

And there you go now theres 2 new things in your My Computer named whatever you named your zune

When you open either of them up theres a drive in there called Storage
In mine there are 16 un-named files, 2 hidden files DevIcon.fil , DevLogo.fil, If youve ever received a file then theres the names of those zune's, and a WMPInfo.xml. 5 folders 2 hidden named

Hidden:
Albums
Playlists

Non-Hidden:
Music
Pictures
Video

Some files have a picture of a lock on them and some dont. You cant play or view anything or change anything. You can delete any files you want though.

If you want to open files all you need to do is start the zune software.

It's a start..
Are you able to use media monkey to place files on that drive and then be able to play them with your zune? Or do you have to still sync through the zune?

Zuners

Luv the Zune and I can now see it in "Computer" in VISTA but it does not show up in MM3. Anyway to get this going? You smart guys at MM could probably figure this out in a few minutes!

zune support

Please add Zune support. The device is very nice and I have both the Ipod video and the Zune. I like different things about both. If any device had all of the features that I like about each I would buy it in a second.

I don't know how many times or in how many ways I can possibly say it in this thread but ZUNE SUPPORT IS NOT POSSIBLE AT THIS TIME!!!!

EDIT: The Zune can now be sync'ed with MM using a work-around. I have written a fairly extensive guide on how to do so - see here.

Sorry, that must have been the bipolar in me coming out.

There have been a few other threads*, and although I would like to see Zune support, there isn't much anyone can do since Microsoft has closed the device.

I would love to have Zune support. MM is the best music manager I have ever used. I have nothing against the Zune software, it does what it needs to do, just like Apple's iTunes. To compare the Zune software and iTunes is like comparing apples and oranges. They're two different companies with two different visions on what the general public is looking for in a media device.

O.K. WHY? I've just read the entire thread. Has MS not released an SDK? Is there some hardware lock that prevents it? Do they charge large licensing fees? Is the underlying hardware too difficult to develop for? Does MS make constant firmware upgrades that break any third party syncs? Does MS attack companies trying to create third party sync software in court?

Why is ZUNE SUPPORT NOT POSSSIBLE A THIS TIME!!!!?

Actually it is possible, if you just look 3 posts up you'll see that is now possible (did you miss this when you "read the entire thread"?)

In fact, there is an encryption key used so that only the Zune software can sync to the Zune, but a workaround has been made available to fool the Zune into thinking it is being synced with the Zune software but really is synced with other programs. I've written a guide on how to do it, see aforementioned post above.
